--- Students living in South Knoxville should pay special attention to detouring that began last week in relation to the Henley Street Bridge closure. Although the Gay Street Bridge is a designated alternate route for South Knoxville traffic, students should also consider utilizing the South Knoxville Connector to avoid traffic congestion in the Gay Street area. To access this route to campus, take East Moody Avenue to South Knoxville Boulevard, which leads to James White Parkway. A detailed map of this route and other information regarding the Henley Street Bridge closure can be viewed at http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/henley/detourshenley.htm.

--- Chamique Holdsclaw Drive between Lake Loudoun Boulevard and Pat Head Summit Street continues to be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day as sewer system work continues. Occasional temporary lane closures at the intersection of Chamique Holdsclaw Drive and Lake Loudoun Boulevard also may take place. For more info call 524-2911.

--- Due to inclement weather, the 50th anniversary African-American Achievement kickoff celebration scheduled for today has been postponed and will be rescheduled. Announcements will be posted once the event has been rescheduled. The march and reception will commemorate the day in January 1961 when three African-American students attended their first undergraduate classes at UT Knoxville and will begin a yearlong celebration to honor the rich legacy of African-American achievement.

--- Archaeology lecture, 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, in McClung Museum auditorium. Speaker: Ole Crumlin-Pedersen, co-founder of the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde, Denmark. Topic: "Crossing the Seas of the North, AD 800-1200." Free and open to the public. Sponsored by the East Tennessee Society of the Archaeological Institute of America, the UT Knoxville Department of Classics' Haines-Morris Distinguished lecture series, the Marco Institute and the McClung Museum.

--- The Healthy Eating and Activity Lab in the UT Department of Nutrition is looking for student participants for a research study that will it be starting soon. The study will provide a state-of-the-art, web-based, behavioral weight loss program to people aged 18 to 30. Participation is free of charge. Participants can expect to lose 1-2 pounds per week; weight loss medications are not a part of the study.

--- The UT Student Alumni Associates (SAA) committee is holding its 2011 membership drive. SAA is a group of students varying all across campus dedicated to enriching relationships between students and alumni of the University of Tennessee. SAA strives to act as a resource for the student body regarding alumni, upholding UT traditions and increasing a sense of school spirit. SAA remains one of the most prestigious groups on campus by serving as the official hosts to the President and by fulfilling the motto: "Students Serving Students Past, Present and Future." --- The Office of Student Orientation and Leadership Development (SOLD) has opened registration for the Women's Mentoring Network (WMN) at UT. The WMN is a component of the Women's Leadership Program and is designed to develop mentoring relationships between female UT students and mentors who are distinguished staff, faculty and alumnae of the university. If you are interested, please register for the WMN on the Student Orientation & Leadership development website at http://sold.utk.edu/womensprogs/women.php. All registrations are due on Friday, Jan. 21. The WMN kick-off will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, in the Black Cultural Center multipurpose room, at which time all mentees and mentors will be introduced. Questions? LeaderShape, Inc., is a not-for-profit organization committed creating a just, caring, thriving world where all lead with integrity and a healthy disregard for the impossible. The flagship program, The LeaderShape Institute, now in its twenty-fifth year, has made a difference in the lives of more than 37,000 young men and women. Each session is comprised of approximately 60 participants representing diverse ethnic, religious, cultural and involvement backgrounds. --- Registration is now open for the 2011 Clifton M. Jones student leadership conference, titled "LeadNow: Where True Change Lies." The conference will be held on Saturday March 5, 2011, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the University Center. Free and open to all students, although space is limited to the first 400 students who register so be sure to sign up soon. This year students will be able to learn how to lead through positive change by attending three different breakout sessions on a variety of different topics. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to hear from noted leadership authority, Dr. Jamie Washington, as he challenges students to lead with inclusion and authenticity. The conference also will feature five distinct track options that students may elect to participate in. During each time-slot of the conference, track participants will have the opportunity to select from !
 various programs that match the track goals. Tracks include: Leadership after College; Greek Leadership; Leaders in Residence; Intercultural Leadership; and Service & Social Responsibility.
