TITLE: Reference & Instruction Librarian / Online Learning Coordinator
LOCATION: University of Washington Bothell and Cascadia Community
College Campus Library
The University of Washington Libraries seeks a creative and energetic
librarian to participate in a collaborative team at the University of
Washington Bothell and Cascadia Community College Campus Library. The
successful candidate will be committed to providing a range of services
at a growing institution, including, but not limited to, instruction and
reference services, in person and online.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the general direction of the Head of Reference Services, and in
consultation with the Head of Instruction Services, provides reference
services and information literacy instruction to the students, faculty
and staff of Cascadia Community College and the University of Washington
Bothell.
The Reference & Instruction Librarian / Online Learning Coordinator will
partner with colleagues within the Library and the campus to integrate
information literacy learning objectives and instruction into the
curricula of both institutions. The successful candidate will join a
team of librarians, faculty, and academic support staff committed to
innovation in teaching and learning.
Coordinator responsibilities include contributing to the development of
online learning services, tools, and pedagogies in support of an
integrated information literacy program serving students both on campus
and online through hybrid and distance programs; assessing, implementing
and promoting learning technologies, including course management
systems, tutorial software, and emerging technologies; communicating
best practices in online and hybrid pedagogy and providing ongoing
training and support to a team of instruction librarians.
General responsibilities include cultivating and sustaining
collaborative relationships with faculty, students, and staff in support
of campus teaching and learning. Given the sustained growth and
interdisciplinary nature of the curricula at both institutions, this
requires active and ongoing collaboration among librarians across all
subjects and levels. Some evening and weekend reference and instruction
work will be required.
The Reference & Instruction Librarian / Online Learning Coordinator will
serve as a subject liaison to undergraduate and graduate faculty and
students in subject areas within the humanities, social sciences, and/or
sciences, to be determined based on experience and current needs of the
unit.
Teaching: Will partner with colleagues within the Library and campus to
develop and deliver in-person and online instruction that integrates
information literacy into the curricula of both institutions.
Collection Development: Will work closely with faculty and librarians
within their liaison areas to develop print and electronic
curriculum-focused collections, whose development is informed by the
larger research collections across the UW Libraries and regional consortia.
Reference: Responsibilities include providing reference services in the
Library’s Information Commons and online through the UW Libraries’ email
and chat reference services.
Professional Development and Service: The successful candidate will be
expected to play an active role in planning for the continued expansion
of UW Bothell and Cascadia, and to take responsibility for his/her
professional development in pursuit of promotion and continuing appointment.
CAMPUS AND LIBRARY:
The University of Washington Libraries serves the students, faculty and
staff of Cascadia Community College and the University of Washington
Bothell at their collocated campus in Bothell, located 18 miles north of
downtown Seattle. Cascadia's degrees include an Associate in Integrated
Studies (AIS), an Associate in Science (AS) and an Associate in Applied
Science (AAS). More information on the college and its programs can be

in Business, Computing and Software Systems, Education,
Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, Science and Technology, and
Nursing. UW Bothell’s off-site degrees currently include programs in
Nursing and Business; Cascadia Community College offers a wide spectrum
of online and hybrid classes. Librarians collaborate frequently with UW
Bothell Academic Services staff from Information Technologies (including
Learning Technologies), the Quantitative Skills Center, Teaching and

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
* Graduate degree from a program accredited by the American Library
Association or an equivalent graduate library science/information
studies degree.
* Demonstrated commitment to diversity and understanding of the
contributions a diverse workforce brings to the workplace.
* Experience or demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging
instructional technologies and online learning pedagogies in support of
hybrid or distance instruction.
Preferred:
1. Experience or demonstrated knowledge in the provision of instruction
services in a community college or university setting is highly
desirable. Familiarity with information literacy and instructional
technology concepts, trends, pedagogies, and assessment.
2. Experience or demonstrated knowledge in the provision of reference
services to community college or university students. Strong user
centered public service philosophy.
3. Applicants with knowledge of or experience with interdisciplinary
studies are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates
who have an interest in gaining experience and developing knowledge in a
variety of disciplines.
4. Experience or demonstrated knowledge in working with students from
diverse backgrounds, interests, and abilities who possess a wide range
of educational goals.
5. Ability to work in a team environment where consultation,
flexibility, creativity, collaboration and cooperation are essential.
Commitment to continually seeking improvement in services, collections,
and facilities.
6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Anticipated Start Date: July 1, 2011.
SALARY: $45,000 minimum. Starting salary commensurate with
qualifications and background.
BENEFITS: Librarians are academic personnel and participate in the
University of Washington Retirement Plan (TIAA-CREF, The Vanguard Group,
and/or Fidelity Investments) on a matching basis. Vacation is accrued at
the rate of 24 working days per year; sick leave at the rate of 12
working days per year. Excellent medical, dental and life insurance
plans. No state or local income tax.
