The online application is now open for the Mathematical and Theoretical
Biology Institute (MTBI) 2011 summer REU, and we would like to give your
students a chance to hear about our exciting program.
MTBI is an intensive eight-week summer research experience for
undergraduates in Tempe, Arizona. From June 14-August 3, MTBI prepares
math and biology undergraduates interested in working at the interface of
mathematics, statistics and the natural and social sciences for the rigors
of graduate studies. MTBI provides a collaborative research environment
with fellow participants, graduate students, postdoctoral students, and
visiting scholars. Students work in self-selected groups on research
problems of their own choosing in collaboration with experienced faculty
and graduate students mentors. By the end of the program, students have
completed technical report and poster and oral presentation to peers and
scientists.
Eligibility requirements for MTBI are that students must be at least a
sophomore; majoring in math, biology, or related field; and have taken at
least calculus. Accepted students will receive a $3,000 stipend, housing
and travel to/from Arizona for the summer, as well as accommodations
to/from Mathfest. International students are accepted, although we are
currently unsure how much financial support we will be able to offer.
Our summer application page can be found at

Swan, our summer coordinator, at [log in to unmask] if you have any
questions about this year's summer program.
