--- Governor-elect and Knoxville mayor Bill Haslam will address UTK graduates at the fall commencement ceremony, 9 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 11, at Thompson-Boling Arena. More than 2,900 undergraduate and graduate students who have completed degree programs during the summer or fall semesters will be awarded diplomas. Five graduates will receive commissions as second lieutenants in the U. S. Army.

--- The Fern and Manfred Steinfeld Program in Judaic Studies is hosting a lecture by 2010-2011 Schusterman Visiting Israeli Professor Alec Mishory. His lecture, “‘Alphabet of Creation’: Some Aspects of Beauty and Uniqueness of the Hebrew Alphabet,” will take place today at 7 p.m. in the McClung Museum Auditorium. A reception will follow.

--- Patricia Bizzell, the Reverend John E. Brooks Professor of Humanities at the College of the Holy Cross, will visit campus today and tomorrow as part of the Rhetoric, Writing and Linguistics Speaker Series. A distinguished scholar of rhetoric and composition, Dr. Bizzell’s publications include "Rhetorical Agendas: Political, Ethical, Spiritual;" "The Rhetorical Tradition: Readings from Classical Times to the Present;" and "ALT DIS: Alternative Discourses and the Academy." Today at 5:30 p.m. Bizzell will deliver "The Damnation of Frances Willard? Women Orators in Fiction by Nineteenth-Century American Men" in McClung Tower 1210-1211. Light refreshments will be provided. Tomorrow, Bizzell will present “English Only? Composition Instruction in a Multilingual, Competitive Liberal Arts College” at 3:30 p.m. in the Mary Greer Conference Room in Hodges Library.

--- ACE will hold an All-Sing Interest meeting today at 6:30 p.m. Participants will meet at UC 226, but then will move up to the student activities office. If you are unable to attend this meeting, there will be an interest meeting held on Tuesday, Nov. 23rd at 6:15 p.m. in UC 226 and immediately followed by a mandatory director's meeting. --- Students are invited to the Baker Center on Tuesday, Nov. 30, to view the webcast of the "National Summit on Advancing Health through Nursing" sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The webcast event will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will run until 2:45 p.m. The program will feature Donna Shalala, Linda Burnes Bolton, Harvey Fineberg and Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, all key leaders from the Institute of Medicine and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Then, from 2:45 to 4 p.m., those gathered locally will discuss what was said during the webcast. That discussion will be led by Carole Myers, UT Baker Fellow and associate professor in the UT College of Nursing. If you plan to attend, RSVP to [log in to unmask] by Monday, Nov. 29. --- The Student Alumni Associates (SAA) is a group on campus dedicated to enriching the relationship between students and alumni here at the University of Tennessee. SAA works in conjunction with the student body regarding alumni interactions, campus events, service activities and helping to increase school spirit.  Their pledge is “Students Serving Students Past, Present, Future.” The Student Alumni Associates are the official hosts to the President and the Chancellor. They host the skyboxes during home games, accompany the president on plane rides, and meet some of the most influential alumni and supporters of the University of Tennessee.

Ready for the World Events

--- Give Haiti Hope, a UT student organization, has teamed up with University Wrap to offer University of Tennessee end zone checkerboard wrapping paper for Vol fans this holiday season. The wrapping paper will be sold for five dollars, with fifty percent of profits going towards projects taking place during the late Dec. 2010 mission trip, which helps provide healthcare, education, and clean water to Haitians. Wrapping paper will be available at the Panhellenic building from 5-8 p.m. today and by contacting Katie Riley, President of Give Haiti Hope UTK at [log in to unmask] or commenting on the Give Haiti Hope UTK facebook page.  Pictures of the Vol themed wrapping paper are available to view on thehaitiblog.org.  The fundraiser has just begun and will continue until the end of the year.

--- International House will host an International Music Night on Tuesday, Nov. 23rd from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the I-House Great Room. UT students from different countries will play their music and snacks from different countries will be provided. Cost of attendance is FREE for I-House club members; $2 for students' $ for staff and faculty and $4 for members of the community.

--- Attention Students:  The Student Success Center is now accepting applications for Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader positions.  Undergraduate students who have been successful in Biology 101 and 102, Chemistry 120 and 130, Engineering Fundamentals 151 and 152, and/or Math 119 and 130 should apply.
