--- Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek invites all students, faculty and staff to a reception for UT president-elect Joe DiPietro at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, in the Haslam Business Building atrium. Dr. Cheek encourages you to attend to officially welcome Dr. DiPietro to campus as the system president. Light refreshments will be served.

Good News

--- The College of Business Administration has one of the nation's best MBA programs, according to The Princeton Review, a top education service and evaluation company. The college's full-time MBA program is listed in the 2011 edition of "The Best 300 Business Schools." The 300 schools included in the book are not ranked in any order. UT's full-time MBA program also appeared in The Princeton Review's 2009 and 2010 listings.

--- Two UT students are now finalists in Mutual of Omaha's Aha Moments commercial contest. Out of over 1,000 videos, juniors Katie Erpenbach and Katie Riley have been selected among the top 25 for their video about what UT students are doing to help people in Haiti. If they reach the top 10, their video will become a national commercial. To vote for them simply visit www.ahamoment.com/vote/katiekatie and click "Vote." Voting ends Sunday, Oct. 31.

--- The UT Women's Coordinating Council presents "Sex Signals," a program that addresses the topic of sexual assault and date rape, 7:30 p.m. tonight in the UC auditorium. Mixing improvisational comedy, education, and audience interaction, "Sex Signals" provokes discussions about dating, sex, and the issue of consent. The 75-minute, two-person play begins with an irreverent and funny look at the awkwardness of dating, with each actor representing their gender's perspective. Free and open to the public.

--- "The LGBTQA-Friendly Library," an instruction session on how to find books and articles on LGBT-related topics, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in 211 Hodges Library. All students are welcome to attend. Sponsored by the LGBT & Ally Resource Center and the University Libraries.

--- The PRSSA student public relations association is holding an Agency Perspectives meeting at 7 p.m. tomorrow in the Scripps Lab. A panel of PR professionals in all aspects of agency work will be discussing what they like and/or dislike about working for an agency. Bring questions! There will be free food. --- The "Documentaries in the Library" film series continues with a screening of the documentary film "RIP: A Copyright Manifesto" followed by a short-subject film, "Don't Download This Song," 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, in Hodges Library auditorium. After the screenings, UT law professor Gary Pulsinelli will lead a discussion on fair use in the digital age. Free and open to the public. For more info visit http://lib.utk.edu/programs.

--- How honest are we at UT Knoxville? Honest Tea, the nation's top-selling organic bottled tea company, will try to answer that question on Wednesday, Oct. 27, when it brings its Honest Campus experiment to the Knoxville campus. The Honest Campus store will feature a selection of bottled tea for students, faculty and staff to purchase on the honor system. Each bottle will cost $1.

--- Worried about how the Henley Street Bridge project and closure will affect you and your route to campus? The Tennessee Department of Transportation will offer two presentations on the project and its logistics this week: 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, and 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, in the UC auditorium. The presentations will include details about the detour and what motorists can expect regarding modification to the detour route. All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend. --- Second Annual UT Harvest Festival, 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in Presidential Courtyard. Culinary Institute students will be making harvest-time apples dipped in chocolate, spiced apple cider and a few unexpected goodies. Buy a pumpkin on-site or bring one of your own to carve, paint, or annihilate in the great pumpkin smash. Proceeds of the sale of pumpkins benefit Nourish International's International Sustainable Development Projects. Judging for the pumpkin carving contest will take place at 6:30 p.m. and one fabulous prize per category will be awarded: Best UT-Themed, Creepiest, and Most Original. (Carving tools will NOT be provided.) This FREE event is sponsored by the UT Bookstore, UT Culinary Institute, Nourish International, and UT Athletics and is open to the campus community.

Gentry, director of the Institute for a Secure and Sustainable Environment and associate professor of civil and environmental engineering, who will speak on "Water Resources and Sustainability Science," noon Friday, Oct. 29 in dining rooms C-D of Thompson-Boling Arena. --- Interested in volunteering in different locations around the U.S. in a wide variety of community service activities during UT's Spring Break? Apply now for Alternative Spring Break (ASB) through the TeamVOLS Volunteer Center. ASB 2011 will take place March 13-19, 2011. Applications are available until Fri. --- The Chancellor's Honors Program presents the 4th Annual Masquerade Ball, 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at Circle Park. The event will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley. Enjoy fun, food and dancing. Entertainment will be provided by DJ Jason Lovely, with food donated by Knoxville restaurants. Pre-sale tickets are $5/person or $8/couple, and will be available on the Pedestrian Walkway the week of Nov. 1. Tickets will be available at the event for $10/person. All UT students and their guests are welcome.Recommended dress code is semi-formal to formal. Masks are encouraged and appreciated.

Important Deadlines

--- The UT Knoxville chapter of Amnesty International is calling for submissions of original works of art on the topic of gender and sexuality. All art media will be considered--poetry, visual arts, theater, musical pieces, etc. Please submit pieces to [log in to unmask] by Oct. 29. Accepted pieces will be shared in a coffee house-style Fringe Festival from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, in the UC Crest Room.

Ready for the World Events

--- Since Halloween has its roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain, UT Knoxville's Ready for the World Café in the UC Hermitage Room will celebrate the scariest week of the year with an Irish-influenced menu. The menu for this week includes Portobello mushroom lasagna; lemon-and-garlic roasted chicken; Guinness pot roast; fisherman's pie (a casserole of seafood and vegetables topped with mashed potatoes); roasted root vegetables; Colcannon (Irish potato salad); roasted artichoke salad; Bailey's Irish Cream cake and dirt cake. To enhance the Halloween theme, employees will be dressed in Halloween costumes. Guests are also encouraged to wear their costumes. Diners pay $11 for the all-you-can-eat buffet or $9 for a plate of food to carry out.

--- The International House is celebrating Japan Week this week. Scheduled events include: Discussion session on visiting or living in Japan, 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, in the I-House Great Room. Learn more about living in Japan, and pick up some tips on traveling there. Enjoy free Japanese snacks.

Tuesday, Oct. 26: JET info session, 1 p.m. in the I-House Great Room.

Wednesday, Oct. 27: Japanese Culture Night, 6:30 p.m. in the Great Room. Come learn and experience the Japanese culture with authentic Japanese food and performances. Tickets are on sale at the I-House front desk. Cost: Students: $5; Faculty & Staff: $6; Community: $7; I-House club member: $2.

Thursday, Oct 28: Japanese anime marathon, 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Come to the I-House Great Room and see a screening of the celebrated anime films by the acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki as well as the popular anime series Full Metal Alchemist. Free and open to the public.
