--- The 2010 Security Booklet for the Knoxville campus is now available online. The electronic version of the publication is available in its entirety on the Dean of Students website at http://dos.utk.edu/files/securitybook_2010.pdf.

Printed copies may be obtained on campus at the Dean of Students office, 413 Student Services Building, or at the UT Police Department, 1101 Cumberland Avenue.

The booklet meets the requirements of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policies and Campus Crime Statistics Act, regarding the reporting of crime statistics and policies by the university. --- The 2010 fire safety report for the Knoxville campus is now available online. The electronic version of the publication is available in its entirety on the UT Environmental Health and Safety website at http://web.utk.edu/~ehss/annual%20fire%20safety%20report/afsr.html.

Printed copies may be obtained on campus at the Environmental Health and Safety Office, 916 22nd Street.

--- The office of Student Orientation & Leadership Development is looking for a new group of student leaders to serve as Orientation Leaders, Leadership Guides and Ignite Team Leaders for 2011. Application forms are now available on the SOLD website at http://sold.utk.edu. The deadline for submitting applications is 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 22. Interest sessions will be held from 5-6 pm, Oct. 4 in the UC Shiloh Room; 3-4 pm, Oct. 12 in the UC Crest Room; and 6-7 pm, Oct. 21, in the Humes Hall West multi-purpose room. --- The submission deadline for the Spring 2011 issue of Pursuit, the undergraduate research journal, has been extended to Monday, Oct. 11. Pursuit accepts advanced, original, research-based submissions from undergraduate students in all academic colleges at UT Knoxville. Graduates may submit their work within one year of their graduation date. All submissions should be made through the online system at http://trace.tennessee.edu/pursuit. --- The Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy, in conjunction with researchers at Rutgers University, University of Florida, Elon University, and University of Oklahoma, is participating in a study on student attitudes toward civic engagement and politics. We will be conducting five focus groups of 8 to 10 students to discuss their perceptions of engagement and citizenship. The responses of UT students will then be used in this larger nationwide survey on youth engagement. Participants will receive a free meal for their assistance and the chance to win larger door prizes from the UT Bookstore. Five focus group sessions will be held during the following times:
5-6:30 pm, Tuesday, Oct. 19; 5-6:30 pm, Wednesday, Oct. 20; 12:30-2 pm, Thursday, Oct. 21; 5-6:30 pm, Wednesday, Oct. 27; 5-6:30 pm Thursday, Oct. 28. --- Two UT students have been selected as semi-finalists in Mutual of Omaha's "Aha Moments" commercial contest. Katie Erpenbach and Katie Riley, both juniors, recorded a video about what UT students are doing to make a difference in Haiti and now they need your help. --- Calling All Entrepreneurs --- Do you have a seed of an idea but need help getting it to grow? Come to a Vol Court session at 5:15 pm, Tuesday, Oct. 5 in room 701 Stokely Management Center. Vol Court is a series of one-hour workshops focusing on how to start a business. It provides students, faculty, staff and friends the opportunity to learn from entrepreneurs and business experts
on how to start a business and potentially win a prize to help establish a new business.

--- VolAware "Stomp Out Stigma" concert and street fair begins Oct. 12 in the Presidential Courtyard. Local recording artist JayStorm will perform, and organizations from the UT chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council will participate in a "stroll-off competition." The fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, and will give students and the community the chance to meet mental health professionals and learn about services on campus and in the community. Students also can take part in activities like mental health "Jeopardy!" and a bean-bag toss, and express their inner child by playing on large inflatable toys and finger-painting. The events aim to raise awareness for mental health issues on campus. VolAware is UT's mental health awareness, wellness and suicide prevention campaign. --- The Life of the Mind Committee invites students, faculty, staff and others to nominate a book as next year's reading selection for first-year students.

Life of the Mind is a common reading experience for all first-year students that gives them their first taste of academic life at UT Knoxville. The book is to be used as a tool to challenge students' thinking and engage them in discussion about important issues and their transition to college. --- The UT American Marketing Association is having their first marketing meeting of the semester at 5:30 pm, Tuesday, Oct. 5, in room 201 Haslam Business Building. The chapter is working on multiple, real-world marketing projects, which include laying the marketing foundation for a nationwide, multimillion dollar business.
