This advertises the Annual William Lowell Putnam Math Competition.
It will take place in a morning and an afternoon session on the first Saturday
in December. Undergraduate students of high math talent are asked to
participate,
regardless of major. Participation and positive scores make a strong point
in a CV.
See more under http://www.math.utk.edu/putnam
(despite the fact that this website is outdated)
We need to register participants soon. If you'd like to participate (or
seriously consider participating), please send an e-mail to Jochen Denzler
[log in to unmask]
NOW. On Monday after the break I need to finish and submit the registration
documents.
If you are a still-eligible participant from last year or are signed up for
Math 309
you will be registered automatically.
The issue of registration is a logistic one, b/c the central admin in
California needs to know
how many copies of exam stationary to send us (without undue waste).
So if you are not sure yet, please have me register you. A last-minute
bailout would be unharmful (only if there are droves of no-show registrants,
they might question
my management skills...), and a slight over-registration will make place for
last
minute signups as substitutes.
Please contact me asap to be registered; during the fall break or Monday
morning.
Sorry for the tight notification time
Jochen Denzler
