--- When UT Knoxville Undergraduate Admissions Director Vern Granger moved to town and went house hunting, HGTV's popular show "House Hunters" went along. The show featuring Granger and his family will air at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15. HGTV airs on Comcast Channel 28.

--- UT Knoxville administrators and current and former student leaders gathered on Saturday to officially kick off the construction of long-awaited new student recreation fields. The fields will be built on the former site of the Sutherland and Golf Range apartment complexes, which closed earlier this year. Construction on the 38-acre complex is expected to begin by the end of the calendar year and take about two years.

--- UTPD Fatal Vision Goggles seminar, 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, at the T-RECS Wellness Resource Room on the main level next to Smoothie King. This seminar will help spread awareness of the dangers of drunk driving. Students will be able to see what it’s like to be under the influence by wearing "fatal vision" goggles and test out their driving skills by playing Mario Kart on the Wii. Questions? --- Interest meeting for applying for a Goldwater Scholarship, 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, in F301 Melrose Hall. The Goldwater Scholarship is awarded each year to up to 300 outstanding sophomores and juniors who plan to pursue a career in mathematics, the natural sciences or engineering. It awards up to $7,500 annually to cover tuition, fees, books and room and board. UT is allowed to nominate four students each year to compete nationally for the Goldwater Scholarship; last year, we had two scholarship winners and one honorable mention.

--- Auditions for the Volunteer Channel's "UT'S GOT TALENT!" show will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, in Studio 40 on the first floor of the Communications Building. Winners will receive a professionally produced music video/documentary from TVC, as well as be announced with this year's Homecoming Queen, and be recognized by the entire campus as the first ever UT's Got Talent winner. --- The Office of Student Orientation & Leadership Development will sponsor UT students to attend "Catalyst," a one-day leadership development program developed by the LeaderShape Institute. Catalyst is FREE for students and will be hosted in the University Center Crest Room from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15. Students will leave the program knowing what type of leader they are and what type of leader they want to be at UT. Ready for the World Events

--- Are your taste buds hungry for adventure? Would you like to sample international cuisine without leaving campus? Get ready, Volunteer foodies: the Ready for the World Café opens today. It will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday this week in the UC Hermitage Room. Diners pay $11 for the all-you-can-eat buffet or $9 for a plate of food to carry out. This week's menu includes apple-cabbage coleslaw, pumpkin pork chops, apple-cranberry chicken breasts, seafood alfredo, crustless spinach-and-feta quiche, scalloped corn supreme and glazed sweet potatoes. The buffet also will feature a carving station and assorted desserts.

Knoxville Connection

--- Phi Beta Sigma fraternity will be hosting their third annual Sleep-Out for the Homeless, starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 23 and continuing until 7 a.m. the next morning. Members will be sleeping outside to raise awareness of the rising levels of homelessness in the surrounding community. Donations will be accepted throughout the night and will be donated to Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries. Questions? E-mail [log in to unmask]
