If you are a *not* a graduating senior and you are interested in a career
in scientific research, you might wish to attend the meeting mentioned
below. Note that to be competitive for this large, prestigious scholarship
you should have had some kind of research experience by the start of your
junior year, along with near perfect grades in your math
classes--preferably including at least one upper division math honors
sequence.

It's that time of year again! The Office of National Scholarships and
Fellowships is once again recruiting students to apply for the Barry M.
Goldwater Scholarship and is holding an information session for
interested students on WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 22nd (4pm, F301 Melrose
Hall).
The Goldwater is a nationally competitive scholarship that provides
funding for undergraduates in math, the natural sciences, and
engineering. Sophomores and juniors from those fields with a career
interest in research are encouraged to apply.
Please pass along this information and/or the attached flyer to any of
your students that might be interested. (If you would like hard copies
of the flyer for distribution, please let me know and I will send them
to you.) And if you are working with any specific student(s) that you
think have potential to be a Goldwater, please let me know and I will
contact them personally. Historically, we have been quite successful
with the Goldwater Scholarship, and we certainly want this trend to
continue!
For a list of recent UT scholars, please see the ONSF Scholars Page:

More information about the Goldwater competition is available on their
website: http://www.act.org/goldwater/.
Thank you,
