Subject: [NYLINE] Richard Halsey, former Dean at U ALbany
Richard S. Halsey, the former Dean of the School of Information Science
and Policy (currently the Department of Information Studies), University
at Albany, State University of New York, passed away on March 28, 2010
in Dallas, TX. Dean Halsey joined the faculty of the School of
Information Science and Policy, University at Albany, SUNY, in 1975, and
served as Dean from 1981 -1993. He received many honors throughout his
distinguished career, including the NYLA Outstanding Service to
Libraries (1983), Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information
Science Alumni Achievement Award (1991), and the New York State Senate
Award for Outstanding Public Service (1998). He served on the White
House Conference on Library and Information Services Taskforce as Region
1 representative and later, national coordinator. He created the
Citizens' Library Council of New York State in 1981 and lobbied
throughout his life for grassroots issues from Common Cause to the Fund
for Modern Courts and the League of Women Voters.
