Dear Friends of Marco,

The first signs of spring are finally here, and we wish you pleasant days and 
frostless nights.  As I'm sure you've noticed, the Marco Institute listserv has 
been inactive for a period of months, though the Institute's programs have 
been growing and thriving.  This year, Marco awarded the first annual Haslam 
Dissertation Fellowship to doctoral candidate Chris Lawrence (History), and 
last summer, doctoral candidate Miguel Gomez (History) was awarded the first 
annual Anne Marie Van Hook Memorial Summer Travel Fellowship for 
dissertation research in Spain.  This year we also welcomed our first Haslam 
Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Professor Joshua A. Westgard, who is currently 
doing research for a book project about the Venerable Bede.  Donor Stuart 
Riggsby has begun an endowment that will eventually fully support Marco's 
Summer Latin program.  

Among these signs of new growth, we have redesigned the Marco website to 
better reflect our programs.  We invite you to visit and learn more about how

In other news, the eighth annual Marco Symposium, "The Building Blocks of

In conjunction with the Symposium, we have invited the early music 
performance ensemble Trefoil to play a free concert on Friday, March 26 at 
8:00 pm on UT campus, entitled "In the Chamber of the Harpers: Late 
Medieval Music from the Iberian Peninsula."  More information can be found on
