Dear Math students,
In the next few weeks many REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates)
programs have deadlines. These programs are fairly competitive to get into
(more so the ones with early deadlines), but can provide a wonderful
opportunity to do research and get paid in the process. If you have
excellent grades in your math courses then you should consider applying.
A good list of programs may be found at
http://www.ams.org/employment/reu.html
A note about our own Math REU program: REU programs are intended mainly
for students from universities other than the host university. For this
reason only 0-2 UT students generally participate in our program. To be
considered for our program you should have at least 3.75 in UD math
courses, and have applied to at least two other REU programs. However,
this year there may be a slight difference. We have not yet heard whether
our grant has been funded. If this happens late in the season (after
mid-March or so) then we may have to scramble to get students, and will be
willing to accept more UT students than normal. If this scenario takes
place, I'll send out an invitation for more applicants.
