PROGRAM TO PREPARE THE NEXT GENERATION OF INFORMATION STEWARDS GETS FUNDING

Dr. Helen Tibbo, SILS professor, and Dr. Christopher "Cal" Lee, SILS

received an $803,258 grant from the Institute of Library and Museum
Services (IMLS) for a program called "Educating Stewards of Public
Information in the Twenty-First Century" (ESOPI-21).

DIGGCURR WINTER INSTITUTE - BUILDING COMMUNITY
The DigCCurr II (Digital Curation Curriculum) project hosted a Winter
Institute and Symposium January 6-8 at the University of North Carolina at

digital curation practices and a community of digital curation
professionals.

WINTER STORIES AND CHILDREN'S BOOK DRIVE - GREAT SUCCESSES!
In addition to storytelling and music of the season, the 17th Annual Winter

CHAT - A DIGITAL ARTS AND HUMANITIES FESTIVAL BEGINS NEXT WEEK
The Institute for the Arts and Humanities (IAH), part of the College of
Arts and Sciences, will present CHAT (Collaborations: Humanities, Arts &
Technology), a digital arts and humanities festival open to the public Feb.
16-20, 2010 on the UNC campus.

OCLC/FREDERICK G. KILGOUR LECTURE IN INFORMATION AND LIBRARY SCIENCE
Lee Dirks, director of Education & Scholarly Communications in Microsoft's
External Research division and SILS alumnus, will be the keynote presenter
for the annual OCLC/Frederick G. Kilgour Lecture in Information and Library
Science. The event will take place at the Frank Porter Graham Student Union
Auditorium on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 2 p.m. A reception is planned
immediately following the lecture in the Atrium outside of the Auditorium.

The 19th International World Wide Web conference, WWW2010, is fast
approaching. Early registration for the conference will end next week on
February 18. Keynote speakers include, Vint Cerf, vice president and chief
Internet evangelist for Google and widely know as a "Father of the
Internet;" danah boyd - Microsoft Research New England and a research
fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard
University; and Carl Malamud, founder and director of Public.Resource.Org a
nonprofit corporation that has placed over 90 million pages of U.S.
government documents on the Internet.
