The Dean of the School of Professional Studies and Graduate College is
the strategic leader for the School and for the Graduate College. The
Dean will lead the Education, Library and Information Science, and
Social Work programs toward a common vision by building on the
strengths of the existing programs to develop beneficial
collaborations among the programs and with external professional
communities. Within the context of the integrated university, the Dean
of the School of Professional Studies and Graduate College will work
in collaboration with the Deans? Council to advance the University
mission, achieve strategic goals of Vision 2020, provide leadership
for the Graduate College, and convene meetings of the Graduate Program
Directors. The Dean will oversee curricular planning and development;
guide faculty development; monitor budgets for the School of
Professional Studies; and lead efforts to develop new programs,
especially graduate programs, responsive to market demands. She/he
will demonstrate a strong commitment to the student as the center of
the educational process through the use of assessment practices to
continually improve teaching effectiveness and student learning. The
Dean will support existing accreditation processes for programs within
the School of Professional Studies.
The Dean will demonstrate a genuine commitment to diversity, as
already reflected in the student body and critical to the University
in terms of curriculum, pedagogy and composition of the faculty. The
Dean will have an appreciation of the University?s commitment to the
education of women and to the Catholic heritage and identity of the
entire institution. She/he will be a strong advocate for professional
programs within a liberal arts framework. The Dean will help advance
the University?s mission through careful leadership of faculty
appointments and promotion and tenure processes within the School of
Professional Studies.
The Dean of the School of Professional Studies and Graduate College
will be a member of the Deans? Council, who report directly to the
Senior Vice President. The Dean will work with the Senior Vice
President to achieve the Strategic Goals of the School of Professional
Studies, the Graduate College, and St. Catherine University. The Dean
will work closely with Development to pursue opportunities to attract
funding for the School of Professional Studies and the Graduate College.
A doctoral degree, preferably in one of the three disciplines
represented in the School of Professional Studies, is required. In
addition, experience in higher education teaching; administration
within professional programs; and alternative delivery models,
especially digital and distance learning, are highly desirable.
Leadership in curriculum design and program development is highly
recommended. The successful candidate will have outstanding
interpersonal management skills and will enjoy working in a
collaborative environment. The Dean will have the ability to
effectively promote the School of Professional Studies and the
Graduate College and develop external relationships that will gain
national recognition and increase enrollments.
