Mark your calendars!

The Howard Baker Center is reinstating the monthly Energy and Environment 
lunches beginning January 29, 2010 and will continue on the last Friday of 
every month.  You will be sent a reminder with the name of the speaker and 
topic at the beginning of each month. The routine will be much as before, with 
the Baker Center providing a light lunch beginning at 11:30 AM with a speaker 
giving a short presentation beginning at noon.  Each speaker will talk for 30 or 
40 minutes on a topic that should be of interest to the group, and will allow 
time for discussion of the issue with the participants.  We will end the lunch 
no later than 1 PM.  We will alternate the meetings between the Baker Center 
and the UT/Battelle Outreach Center at 1201 Oak Ridge Turnpike.  As before, 
we will concentrate on speakers from the local area, but with occasional 
speakers from elsewhere.  You will need to sign-up for the luncheon no later 
than a week prior to the meeting and seating will be limited to 40 people.  At 
the beginning of each meeting, there will be an opportunity to share 
information with the group regarding upcoming workshops and conferences or 
anything else that you think might be of interest to the group. We are hoping 
to have a number of sessions on issues associated with global climate change 
this year and we will begin with Gregg Marland giving a talk entitled “Balancing 
the Carbon Cycle and Treaty Verification” on the 29th at the Baker Center.   
Gregg is a Distinguished Staff Scientist in the Environmental Sciences Division 
at ORNL and is a geologist by training.  He was a Contributing Author for the 
First IPCC report and a Lead Author on both the Second and Third IPCC
