Information Specialist I
Vice Chancellor Communications
Pay Grade 39
Salary Dependent on Experience and Qualifications
Full Time
This position will coordinate internal and external communications for
the university through a variety of methods that serve to promote and
enhance key goals and initiatives. Will work with administrators and
representatives of colleges and departments to build a clear and
consistent image of the university to a variety of audiences. Write and
edit news releases, features, speeches, talking points and Web site
content. Will share story ideas with local, regional and national media.
A Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations or
related field is required. Three to five years experience in public
relations, marketing or communications required. Experience placing
stories in national, regional and local media. Proven knowledge of
issues management. Excellent writing and problem solving skills are
essential. Ability to communicate one-to-one and in groups when
necessary. Must be highly organized and willing to work independently. A

This position will develop and oversee communications and marketing
materials that represent the university to high profile external
audiences (donors, alumni, potential students, current students and
parents) and internal audiences (administrators, faculty and staff) in
both print and web formats. Research, conduct interviews, write, edit
and manage highly visible print and web based communications projects
including annual reports, recruiting materials, magazine articles,
promotional materials, media releases, fund raising brochures,
advertisements, as well as presentations for the Chancellor and Vice
Chancellors. Will ensure that all communications materials conform to
the university branding and identity guidelines. A Bachelor's degree in
English, creative writing, communications or journalism with solid
education in writing for print and electronic publications, media
relations and advertising and marketing materials is required. Five or
more years experience in writing, editing, research, reporting and
project management, required. Proven experience dealing directly with
clients, demonstrating maturity, diplomacy and knowledge of
communications, advertising, marketing and public relations. Experience
developing communications strategies and tactics. Work experience should
include working in both short form and long form formats. Must have the
ability to manage a project from inception to completion. Must have the
ability to write both technical and non-technical material, to interview
and report, to research and fact-check, to edit, to work as a member of
a team - both taking directions and leading, to multi-task and to
understand the unique communication issues associated with information
to be used on the web. Must have ability to work independently and to
work on multiple projects in a fast-paced setting. Must have excellent
oral communication skills in both one-on-one and group situations.
Experience in an advertising agency, in-house agency or university

This position is responsible for developing web-based communications
efforts that represent the university to high profile external (donors,
alumni, potential students) and internal audiences (administrators,
faculty and staff, current students and parents). Responsible for
conceptualizing, developing, implementing, managing and disseminating
electronic communication strategies to achieve the overall communication
goals of clients of the Office of Communications and Marketing. Work
with clients on transitioning to electronic communications methods in
order to save money. Ensure that all web and electronic communications
materials conform to the university branding and identity guidelines. A
Bachelor's degree in communications, graphic design, information
technology or related field is required. At least two years' experience
designing and maintaining websites and/or working as part of a
communications team. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Knowledge of web standards and emerging technologies. Experience working
in Unix/Linux/Windows server environments. Strong design skills and
familiarity with the industry standard software packages. Ability to
think creatively and strategically in the pursuit of stated objectives.
Good problem solving and organizational skills. Detail oriented; self
directing and able to prioritize and manage projects to meet deadlines,
required. Experience developing Wordpress themes; knowledge of Search
Engine Optimization techniques; ability to write PHP scripts, highly
