UT Web Expert Leads Saturday Workshop on How to Write for Web
Writing for the web differs from writing for print in key ways, and you
can fine-tune your understanding of them. The Knoxville Writers' Guild
will sponsor a workshop this Saturday, April 25, by web journalism expert
James G. Stovall on “Writing for the Web."
The event will be from 2-4 p.m. at the Knoxville Women’s Clubhouse at 3930
Kingston Pike. The seminar can accommodate 40 people. Cost is $15 for KWG
members and $20 for non-members. To register or make reservations, visit
www.knoxvillewritersguild.org. Or, take a chance and sign up at the door.
Stovall, the Edward J. Meeman Distinguished Professor of Journalism at the
University of Tennessee, said his discussion-style presentation will cover
questions such as: What are the differences between writing for the web
and writing for other media? How can you improve your writing and build
your audience?
Stovall has written eight books on journalism, including “Web Journalism:
Practice and Promise of a New Medium” (Pearson Education, 2003) and
“Writing for the Mass Media” (Allyn & Bacon; 7th edition, 2008.)
Stovall’s teaching specialties are writing, web journalism, editing,
visual journalism, teaching high school journalism and public opinion
research. At Tennessee he initiated the development of the Tennessee
Journalist (www.TNJN.com) the student-operated news web site of the School
of Journalism and Electronic Media. To read more about him visit his
