The Robert W. Woodruff Library of the Atlanta University Center, Inc. is an
organization undergoing dynamic transformation and is poised for excellence.
Our uniqueness among academic libraries is our service to four historically
black institutions in the Atlanta University Center - Clark Atlanta
University, Morehouse College, Spelman College, and the Interdenominational
Theological Center. The Library serves nearly 10,000 undergraduate and
graduate students and has a collection of 1 million items in various formats
including a special collections and archives department rich in African
American materials. The Library is a member of ARCHE, SOLINET, OCLC, HBCU
Library Alliance, and a participant of the Georgia state network, GALILEO
The Robert W. Woodruff Library of the Atlanta University seeks an energetic,
highly motivated individual as an Archival Assistant for the Library's Voter
Education Project. The Voter Education Project is a grant funded project
that will allow for the preservation, digitization and creation of an
electronic finding aid that will make the collection available for research
and studying. Working with the Project Archivist this individual will be
responsible for assisting with implementing procedures for the processing of
the collection, maintaining statistics on productivity, and inputting data
into the Archivists Toolkit. The incumbent will have supervisory
responsibilities for two part-time student workers. Appointment is
full-time and grant funded.
REQUIREMENTS:
¨ Sort, arrange, and label collections
¨ Assist in identifying items that are appropriate for digitizing
¨ Prepare draft descriptions of series and box content
¨ Input descriptions into Archivist Toolkit, a software Archival
Management Tool.
¨ Assist with re-housing collection in document boxes
¨ Implement basic preservation measures for surface cleaning and
housing of material
¨ Order preservation supplies for labeling, cleaning, and housing of
collection
¨ Perform research to accurately identify, date, and describe
collection
¨ Train and supervisor student workers to assist with the project
QUALIFICATIONS:
¨ B. A. degree
¨ Effective project management skills
¨ Knowledge of African American history desirable
¨ Ability to work effectively as a member of a team as well as
independently
¨ Excellent verbal and communication skills
¨ Strong computer and research skills
¨ Ability to perform physical activities associated with the archival
environment
SALARY & BENEFITS:
Salary commensurate with experience
