The Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center has an opening for a Resource Center Manager/Photo Archivist for the Atwood Resource Center. Under general supervision of the Chief Curator, the Resource Center Manager/Photo Archivist is responsible for the overall care of the Museum's photograph collections including planning, organizing, acquiring, processing and preserving photographic materials.

Essential functions of the position include:
As Resource Center Manager:
Manage the Resource Center to achieve high visibility and public use of the Center's resources
Create and implement Resource Center policies and procedures
In cooperation with the Chief Curator, develop and oversee the Resource Center budget
In cooperation with the Chief Curator negotiate Resource Center agreements
Seek grant funds for Resource Center projects
Plan for and oversee purchase and maintenance of Resource Center equipment
Oversee reference services
Maintain a working knowledge of copyright issues for library and photographic materials
Serve on the Museum's Collections Committee and other Museum committees as required 
Represent the Resource Center in local, state and national professional groups and organizations
Other duties as assigned

As Photo Archivist:
Maintain the collections accession records following archival standards
Preserve, identify, arrange, inventory and organize photographs so they are accessible for reference
Create finding aids; maintain electronic database systems, collection descriptions and indexes to make materials available to Museum staff and the public 
Provide reference assistance and instruction to researchers and members of the general public 
Participate in photographic preservation and digitization projects
Promote active use of the collections through outreach including exhibitions
Assist with solicitation of gifts of collections and identify potential donors of photographic collections
Work closely with other Museum staff to promote active use of Resource Center collections in education, research and community service 
Train volunteers and interns in the care and processing of historical photographs.

Supervision:
Has full supervisory responsibility for staff including interns, contract employees and volunteers
Schedule staff to cover hours of operation
Instructs personnel in the creation, storage, and reproduction of digital images from the museum's collections.

The position requires the following qualifications: 
Master's degree in archival administration, library science, history, art or related discipline with formal coursework and experience in the care and management of historical photograph collections;
Two years relevant professional experience in the acquisition, development and management of historical photograph collections in an archive, library or museum.

3. Job Posting: HBO Archives Summer Internship

DESCRIPTION
The Archival Intern will assist the Director, Manager and Researcher in the day-to-day operations of the Archive department. Tasks will include helping in library development and preservation initiatives, assisting the cataloging team with research, designing marketing and advertising plans, building screeners for outside clients, assisting internal producers with research needs, creating compilation reels, supporting our website development, and preparing and observing edit sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be an undergrad (Junior or Senior) student with a related major. Computer literate (Microsoft Office, internet research) and have some knowledge of American sports history, 20th century history, and pop culture. The applicant must have strong organizational skills and the ability to work well within a small team. A working knowledge of 3/4 inch, Beta, HD and VHS 
tape formats is helpful.

Adirondack Museum
Project Archivist

Organization Profile
Twenty-two indoor & outdoor exhibit areas on 32 landscaped acres establish the Adirondack Museum as a strong regional collector and preserver of the Adirondack region*s heritage. Founded in 1957, the museum preserves and interprets an important and extensive collection of material culture, art, photography, library and archival holdings. The museum is open from Memorial Day weekend to mid-October, with over 70,000 visitors annually.  Museum programming and stewardship functions are carried out by a year-round staff of 36 full time and part time employees and approximately 60 seasonal employees.

Position Summary
The Adirondack Museum seeks an archivist in March 2009 for a twelve-week project to arrange and describe two collections of personal papers.

Under the supervision of the director of the museum library, the project archivist will develop a processing plan, implement necessary preservation procedures, sort and arrange the papers, develop collection inventories, re-house the collections, write finding aids, and enter finding aids into existing database.

Preferred Qualifications
M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited library school or masters degree in history; Library experience and/or interest in history; experience with archival processing.  

Employment Period & Rate of Pay
12 weeks starting March 2009; 40 hours per week; the museum offers a wage of  $15/hour.  Housing provided (security deposit required).
