	The Illinois Secretary of State's Office, State Archives, is seeking applicants for an Electronic Records Archivist, with the position title of Archival Program Administrator. The focus of this position will be to help create electronic records policies and practices for the state of Illinois.

	DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
	 
	Plans, directs, oversees, administers, and evaluates the operations of professional archival, supervisory and support staff of a major program component including multiple program functions at the Illinois State Archives.   Coordinates professional functions with other areas of operation within the Illinois State Archives.  Represents the Illinois State Archives to university and research communities, and major public agencies; coordinates outreach activities directed at students, genealogists, archival community; explains archives programs, policies, objectives and applicable laws, rules and regulations to archival boards, governmental agencies, educational bodies, professional associations, and public groups.  Exercises responsibility for budgetary planning and control and personnel management.  Prepares or directs the preparation of administrative reports, memoranda, correspondence, or other documents for use in program administration.  Serves as expert professional consul

	  to the Director on archival program development, enhancement, and services.  
	 
	REQUIREMENTS:
	 
	Requires equivalent to completion of a Master's degree, preferably with coursework in public administration, history, business administration, political science, library science, archival management or records management, and two years of professional supervisory archival, records management, or closely related experience.  Possession of credentials as a certified archivist or records manager will be credited as six months of professional supervisory experience.  
	 
	Requires thorough knowledge of professional archival and records management theory, principles, methods, materials, and practices. 
	 
	Requires thorough knowledge of electronic archival systems, automation techniques, and development theory.
	 
	Requires thorough knowledge of electronic records management techniques, applications, and developmental theory.
	 
	Requires thorough knowledge of archival materials and their value to archives staff and patrons.
	 
	Requires thorough knowledge of the principles and methods of classifying, arranging, describing, cross-referencing and researching documents.
	 
	Requires thorough knowledge of the organization and structure of state and local government and local and regional history.
	 
	Requires extensive knowledge of personal computer program applications such as database, spreadsheet and work processing, especially as they are used in the archival science and records management field.
	 
	Requires working knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, and methods.
	 
	Requires the ability to administer and direct high-level professional staff activities.
	 
	Requires the ability to maintain good working relations with government officials, the general public, and members of the archival community.
	 
	Requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Digital Collections Archivist
Georgia Tech Archives

In support of the Institute's instructional and research mission, this position will be responsible for identifying, collecting, and preserving archival materials including campus e-publications, born-digital material, digital research data, and other archival collections, some of which are selected for digital conversion and web access via the library-run Georgia Tech institutional repository (IR), SMARTech, and preservation in the Archives' dark digital repository, currently running on DSpace software. The Digital Collections Archivist will manage the campus e-publications program, a part of the GT IR. The Digital Collections Archivist serves as a liaison to the library's Digital Library Development and Scholarly Communications and Digital Services Departments from the Archives. S/he will participate in the evaluation and selection of software used for the Archives' digital collection. The archivist will participate in a team environment in refining the collecting s
copes of the Archives Department, in devising selection and appraisal criteria, and carry out collecting and appraisal functions for these departments in regards to digital collections. S/he will prepare collections for digital conversion in conjunction with the Scholarly Communications and Digital Services Department and advise the department on the Archives' technological needs and requirements. S/he provides web content to the library's Web Designer who is responsible for design and updating of the Archives' portion of the library's web site. The Digital Collections Archivist will also provide reference service on the Archives Department reference desk, and will perform other archival duties on an as needed basis.

The Archives and Rare Books section of the Bernard Becker Medical Library, on the Medical campus of Washington University in St. Louis, holds over 26,500 volumes arranged in nine collections of rare books and journals.   It provides a wealth of historical resources to serve the faculty, researchers, scholars, and students of Washington University and beyond.  The rare book collections support medical education and research in a wide variety of disciplines, with particular strengths in ophthalmology, neurology, anatomy, ENT, dentistry, obstetrics and
gynecology.   
   The four special collections librarians/archivists annually handle more than 3,000 reference requests through on-site visits, telephone, or e-mail contact.  The rare book librarian provides specialized reference services, bibliographic description and organization for the rare and
special collections books.  Other duties include conservation and preservation, promotion and exhibition, public relations, and such special projects as may be assigned.

Major responsibilities include:
*        Public service (reference and research assistance)
*        Outreach (exhibits, tours and lectures)
*        Technical services (cataloging and collection management)
*        Preservation (care and handling, repair and conservation)

Required qualifications include:
*        M.L.S., with course work relevant to rare books or special collections 
*        Strong reading comprehension of German, particularly Fraktur, and additional reading competence in Latin or a Romance language

*        Specialized training in rare book cataloging for description and control; ability to create original bibliographic records
