Karen E. Reynolds, an Americana singer/songwriter whose music is compared
to that of Cheryl Wheeler, Mary-Chapin Carpenter, James Taylor, and
Carole King, will speak at the Thursday, Jan. 8 meeting of the Knoxville
Writers’ Guild on “How the Songwriter Writes.”
The meeting is open to the public and will be at the Laurel Theatre at the
corner of Laurel Avenue and 16th Streets in Forth Sanders. Refreshments
are served, and a $1 donation is requested at the door. The building is
handicapped accessible.
Based in Knoxville, Reynolds has created a musical presence for herself
that is a fascinating combination of musical artistry and hard-headed
business. A performer at venues across the Southeast and beyond in a style
described as both hearty-voiced and emotional, she has received a host of
awards and recognition for her work.
But she also owns and operates a career consultation agency for
independent artists; has served as producer, promoter, agent or publicist
for many nationally known artists and is longtime host and program
director for Writer's Block, a radio program and concert series that is
broadcast worldwide. She has taught songwriting and music business through
the University of Tennessee and loves to talk about both the craft and the
business end of music.
Reynolds is a mentor for the Country Music Hall of Fame's prestigious,
"Words & Music In Schools" program and was honored this past season for
her work there, by joining Trisha Year wood and others in concert at the
Ford Theatre in Nashville. She has been nationally recognized for her
songwriting, as well as her work with Independent artists, by such
organizations as Americana Highway, Indiegrrl, Just Plain Folks and more.
