54 Hourly (non-exempt) - Minimum - $ 10.12 Midpoint - $ 12.64
Normal Work Schedule:
(i.e. Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm) Monday - Friday 8 a.m - 4:45 p.m
Appointment Type: Regular Full-time (Benefits eligible)
Job Summary:
The Digitization Specialist will be responsible for capturing,
reformatting, and conversion of primary and other source materials into
digital files for online presentation as well as quality control of such
files.
The Digitization Specialist will create digital images and documents
from
a variety of materials following best practices for scanning, quality
control, administrative and structural metadata creation, tracking,
archiving, and storage of digital objects. This position will maintain
appropriate hardware and software, including such activities as cleaning
scanners and other specialized equipment, calibrating color monitors,
and
solving minor technical problems. This position will apply quality
control
measures to digital images to ensure color accuracy and scale of
representation and will maintain and verify digital files on various
media
to ensure longevity of data.
Additional Department Summary:
This position will maintain appropriate hardware and software, including
such activities as cleaning scanners and other specialized equipment,
calibrating color monitors and solving minor technical problems.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED and at least four (4) years of
training or
experience in digitization software, hardware, and applications or
materials preservation; OR an Associate's degree and at least two (2)
years of training or experience in digitization software, hardware, and
applications or materials preservation; OR a Bachelor's degree or higher
and at least six (6) months of training or experience in digitization
software, hardware, and applications or materials preservation.
Demonstrated knowledge in the creation and management of digital
information. Knowledge of techniques for adjusting image data (tone,
color, scale) to achieve fidelity with originals under controlled
lighting
conditions.
Excellent organizational skills; detail oriented; ability to establish
priorities and achieve goals; ability to manage a process from design to
completion, analyze and solve problems, and initiate and adapt to
change.
Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work
independently and effectively in a collaborative setting. Sensitivity to
the handling issues of library materials. Competence in basic computer
skills which include use of Windows and/or Macintosh based PCs,
demonstrated use of Photoshop or similar software program, and other
digital conversion software. Ability to discriminate fine tonal
variations
and color fidelity of digital reproductions.
Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated expertise in the creation and management of digital
information in a library, archive or museum setting. Experience in
digital
production. Expertise in color calibration, color management systems,
audio digitization and optimization. Use of digital cameras and scanners
in a production environment. Background in photography or digital
imaging
technologies. 6 months to 1 year in supervision or training.
