Librarian III or IV, Head of Acquisitions, position number 82676, UHM
Library Serv, (Manoa), tenure track, general funds, available 08/08
Duties: This position oversees monographic acquisitions functions for an
ARL-level library with an annual monographic materials budget of over $1
million. This position reports directly to the Head of Collection
Services
and oversees nine paraprofessional staff members. Responsibilities
include
management of monographs acquisitions, ordering and receiving of
materials
invoicing for resources, processing and tracking fund expenditures,
vendor
relations, gifts & exchange, and staff supervision. Acquisitions is a
key
function in the library and this department head works collaboratively
with many other librarians outside the Collection Services Division
including selectors for the general collections and those purchasing
materials for special collections. The Hamilton Library is a rapidly
changing environment and its Head of Acquisitions is expected to develop
expertise with emerging technologies and lead and/or participate in
innovative library projects. Minimum qualifications: Librarian III:
ALA-accredited MLS or international equivalent. Minimum three years of
appropriate professional academic library experience. Twenty-four post
baccalaureate credits of academic study. Librarian IV: In addition to
the
MLS, a second masters degree in a subject area. At least seven years of
appropriate experience, including technical services. Applicants for
either rank must also have: Substantial experience in acquisitions
functions with increasingly responsible work assignments. Successful
supervisory experience. Demonstrable ability to multitask and manage
detail. Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.
Evidence
of strong critical thinking skills. Knowledge of the business of
acquisitions, including accounting experience. Experience with vendor
relations. Experience with and knowledge of ILS systems and the suite of
OCLC products. Experience using automated acquisitions. Potential for
leadership in a collaborative setting. Productive attitude and
enthusiasm
for an innovative and changing environment. Desirable qualifications:
Acquisitions experience in a mid-to-large academic or research library,
including approval plans, standing orders, and blanket plans. Knowledge
of
current cataloging rules and protocols. Knowledge of print, non-print,
and
electronic formats. Knowledge of the international book trade,
especially
Asia and the Pacific. Experience with developing an RFP. Knowledge of
current tools of acquisitions used in the library world. Experience with
workflow analysis and implementing change. Working knowledge of foreign
language. Experience managing Gifts & Exchange operations. Pay range:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience. To apply: Submit cover
