Product/Content/Knowledge Manager/ Metadata Librarian -
This position will be the product and process champion for managing
content in a major new online search application. The individual will be
responsible for creating a comprehensive metadata strategy which will
include acquisition, quality handling and enhancement (e.g.
normalization, entity extraction, taxonomy mapping, etc.). The position
will play a significant role in designing and developing a new line of
products and services as well as related administrative applications.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Research customer and end-user needs and identify related
opportunities
* Envision, design, articulate and oversee development of methods for
managing content and metadata (from a variety of sources and in
disparate formats) in order to enable optimal search, recall, refinement
and navigation
* Create detailed use cases, design requirements, and marketing
requirements from a content and functionality perspective
* Participate in product development team throughout development and
consult closely with software development staff to convey requirements,
understand and work within technical constraints, and optimize the
effectiveness of design implementations
* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors
and partners to ensure product performance for mutual customers where
interoperability is required
* Develop hands-on, in-depth knowledge of competitive products and
maintain technical analysis of competitive strengths and weaknesses
* Monitor user feedback as well as market and technology trends to
continually identify opportunities for improvement
QUALIFICATIONS:
* 3+ years experience in content management, working with online
publishing of content or as a metadata librarian
* Knowledge of public and academic libraries or a degree in library or
information science
* Familiarity with web applications, search technologies and the
software development process
* Experience working with metadata structures (XML, MARC, DC, METS,
etc.) and some familiarity with data mining/entity extraction technology
* Knowledge of library information retrieval systems
* Ability to work in a start-up environment with a skeleton staff
initially and very ambitious goals

* Must be self-motivated, able to work independently and thrive in a
fast-paced, multi-tasking cross-functional team environment while
maintaining excellent working relationships with people in a wide
variety of functional areas
* Awareness of library standards (e.g. FRBR, AACR2, OAI, OpenURL, DOI,
etc), information industry organizations (e.g. NISO, CrossRef, DAOJ,
etc), and also a basic appreciation for ILS, OPAC and courseware
applications is preferred
* High level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
as well as basic technical writing skills
* Bachelors degree required, masters degree in library or information
science highly desirable
* Ability to travel 15%

Product Manager / Application User Experience -

This position is responsible for capturing user needs and defining
requirements for the interface, capabilities, features and performance
for a major new online search application. The individual will define
the user experience for this service which will support students,
librarians and faculty members in conducting scholarly research.
This position helps define the product road map, creates concepts and
use cases for new services and features to support end-user and library
customer needs and meet business objectives. The individual develops
detailed requirements, provides direction to a cross-functional
technical team, and coordinates with various organization to enable
product development through market launch. This position will work
closely with software developers, content operations, sales and
marketing as well as senior management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Research customer and end-user needs and identify related
opportunities
* Create detailed use cases, product requirements, and functional
specification from a user interface/user interaction perspective
* Participate in product development team throughout development and
consult closely with software development staff to convey requirements,
understand and work within technical constraints, and optimize the
effectiveness of design implementations
* Coordinate beta sites for a new online of products and services
* Promote product benefits, capabilities, technologies, tools and
services through relationship with key customers and contacts throughout
the library community
* Support marketing, sales and support through leading the development
and maintenance of various technical marketing collateral including
application notes, FAQs, product notes, user guides, field training
presentations, online marketing content and demos
* Perform product demonstrations at trade shows, online seminars, and
other events
* Develop hands-on, in-depth knowledge of competitive products and
maintain technical analysis of competitive strengths and weaknesses
* Monitor user feedback as well as market and technology trends to
continually identify opportunities for improvement
QUALIFICATIONS:
* 3+ years experience in product management, user experience design,
publishing or marketing for an online application, content management
company or a publisher/media company
* Considerable experience with online applications, search applications,
or reference/information access tools
* Familiarity with web applications, search technologies and the
software development process
* Ability to work in a start-up environment with a skeleton staff
initially and very ambitious goals
* Must be self-motivated, able to work independently and thrive in a
fast-paced, multi-tasking cross-functional team environment while
maintaining excellent working relationships with people in a wide
variety of functional areas
* High level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

* Bachelors degree required, preferably in a technical field, masters
degree highly desirable
