Time out! Here are two archivist positions that close in the next few
days, as well as the other current National Archives job announcements.
Hopefully, this will kick off a round of hiring, provided that NARA can
draw out enough applicants. Please do not pass on these announcements
or screen them out, because there is no end run around the federal
application process--the government guards against that. Don't believe
the armchair quarterbacks-this may be your opportunity to go long and
deep. So, front and center, huddle with your career counselors, and
then take the plunge. Good recommendations might give you some needed
downfield blocking. No snap decisions, though, because a
carefully-worded application could give you safety and even help you
blitz the hiring process. Applying can be a slow process, "three yards
and a cloud of dust," and all that, but if you are persistent, you can
score.
