Manager, Library Multimedia Laboratory
Title: Manager, Library Multimedia Laboratory

General Purpose: The Library Multimedia Laboratory Manager manages,
develops, coordinates, and promotes the Library Multimedia Laboratory
(LML) as a learning environment and digital development area; the LML is
used by campus students, faculty, and external library patrons. The LML
Manager promotes and supports the effective use of current multimedia
and instructional technologies in teaching and research across campus.
This trained instructional designer partners with campus faculty as a
technology facilitator, workshop trainer, and as designer and developer
of multimedia materials (e.g., creates teaching/learning materials that
support instruction). The LML Manager advises and consults with campus
faculty on the development and online delivery of digital media. The LML
Manager develops and evaluates multimedia and audiovisual collections to
support instruction. The LML Manager designs and develops library
multimedia materials for the library's educational outreach efforts to
the campus and region. The LML Manager provides guidance to faculty,
staff, students, and external users in the use of technology resources
and maintains computer delivery platforms in the LML.

Duties and Responsibilities

Manages all aspects of the LML on a daily basis, including working with
students and delivering instruction. 
Develops and maintains the LML as an effective student learning
environment. 
Maintains computers, hardware, and software delivery and production
platforms. 
Guides LML users (faculty, staff, students, external) in use of LML
technology resources. 
Develops LML strategic plan, LML records, statistics, reports, and
communications. 
Provides instructional design, development, and digital services. 
Collaborates with faculty/staff on production of digital media content. 
Designs and creates multimedia technology for library instruction and
outreach projects. 
Works with faculty on instructional design/development projects. 
Teaches workshops and provides one-on-one training in
instructional/multimedia technology. 
Promotes educational technology and LML services to the campus. 
Identifies and recommends emerging technologies for campus and library
needs. 
Promotes, develops/evaluates LML, library audiovisual collections, and
student study rooms. 
Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher
education in instructional technology, design, development, or systems;
or information science or education, with an emphasis in technology in a
closely related field; and two years of related work experience, or a
doctoral degree in the field. 
Two years of related work experience, including demonstrated experience
in instructional design and development, or multimedia technology
(examples of work required as part of application). 
Experience with relevant technology resources including hardware (e.g.,
Apple, PC, digital cameras/recorders) and software (e.g. Adobe After
Effects, iMovie, iDVD, Apple Final Cut Pro, video/audio digitizing
interfaces). 
Relevant work experience in an academic and/or health sciences
environment preferred. 

Skills

Must demonstrate professional creativity, initiative, leadership, and
ability to plan and implement change. 
Excellent interpersonal skills and strong oral/written communication
skills required. 
Proven ability to effectively plan and lead workshops and provide
customer-focused services. 
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, and familiarity with Windows
and Mac operating systems. 
Ability to maintain the library multimedia streaming server. 

Supervision: Reports directly to the Head, Electronic & Collection
Services.

Working Conditions: The Health Sciences Library and Biocommunications
Center is a service organization dedicated to providing efficient,
professional, friendly, and timely service to the university community
and library patrons at large. Our mission is to support the teaching,
research, patient care, and service mission of the University of
Tennessee Health Science Center. The incumbent enjoys excellent working
conditions within an office setting. The usual hours for this position
are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Location: This position is currently located in the Health Sciences
Library and Biocommunications Center on the second floor of the Lamar
Alexander building on campus. The street address is Health Sciences
Library and Biocommunications Center, University of Tennessee Health
Science Center, 877 Madison Avenue, Memphis, TN 38163.

Salary: Minimum salary of $50,000, commensurate with education and
experience. Comprehensive benefits package including 24 vacation days,
educational assistance, longevity pay, and retirement plans, including
TIAA-CREF.
