Position: Student Library Assistant -- Digitization
Department: Special Collections Library
Hours: 10-15 hours per week; schedule is negotiable within our business
hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00-5:30)
Required Qualifications: UT student (undergraduate or graduate) in liberal
arts or information sciences. Detail oriented. Computer proficient.
Excellent communication skills. Must be able to work independently.
Preferred: Previous work experience in a library. Interest in rare books,
Tennessee history, or librarianship. Prior experience using a flat bed
scanner. Familiarity with EAD, MODS, TEI, or other forms of metadata.
Familiarity with HTML or other forms of XML markup. Prior experience
handling rare or fragile materials. Ability to read 19th century
handwriting.
Duties/Responsibilities: Scan selected Special Collections materials,
including letters, photographs, and other historic items. For text-based
items, create a TEI record, including a full transcription of the item.
Create database entries for collections and items scanned. Edit EAD-encoded
finding aids for materials scanned. Other duties as assigned.
