Faculty Position - Organizational Studies of Information Technology --
University of California at Irvine -- California

Tenure-Track Faculty Position
Organizational Studies of Information Technology
University of California, Irvine
Donald Bren School of Information & Computer Sciences
Department of Informatics
The Department of Informatics in the Donald Bren School of Information and
Computer Sciences at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) is seeking
excellent candidates for a tenure-track position in organizational studies
of information technology or a related research area. The position, for
appointment in July 2008, is targeted at the rank of associate professor,
but exceptional candidates at all ranks will be considered.
The Department is home to an interdisciplinary group of scholars, with
backgrounds in computer science, engineering, anthropology, psychology,
and new media arts, focused on research problems around the design, use,
applications and implications of information and communication
technologies. Particular areas of research strength include:
human-computer interaction, ubiquitous computing, software engineering,
programming languages and environments, organizational use of information
systems, social studies of information technology, and computer-supported
collaborative work. A new undergraduate major in Informatics and an
affiliated graduate program in Arts|Computation|Engineering complement our
existing graduate program in Informatics and undergraduate offerings in
Information and Computer Science.
The Department of Informatics is one of three departments in the Bren
School of ICS and is internationally recognized as a unique group of
faculty, visiting researchers, students and, educational programs. The
School is slated to grow substantially over the next decade with the
recent establishment of ten endowed chairs (some in Informatics). Thus,
outstanding candidates in other research areas and at more senior levels
are encouraged to contact us. For a perspective on the Informatics
Department, the Bren School, and our vision, see
http://www.ics.uci.edu/informatics.
UCI is targeted as a growth campus for the University of California. It is
one of the youngest UC campuses, yet ranked 10th among the nation's best
public universities by US News & World Report. Salary and other
compensation (including priority access to on-campus faculty housing) are
competitive with the nation's finest public universities. For an overview
of UCI, see http://www.uci.edu.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Informatics, Computer Science,
Information Science, Organizational Studies or other relevant field and
show strong teaching promise as well as research potential evidenced by
scholarly publications. Senior applicants must also demonstrate a proven
track record in funded research activities.
Screening will begin immediately upon receipt of a completed application.
Applications will be accepted until positions are filled, although maximum
consideration will be given to applications received by January 31, 2008.
Completed applications containing a cover letter, curriculum vitae, sample
research publications, and three to five letters of recommendation should
be uploaded electronically. Please refer to the following web site for
instructions http://www.ics.uci.edu/employment/employ_faculty.php.
