Position Announcement

Assistant Professor of Instructional Technology - Library Information
Specialist
Department of Educational Technology, Research and Assessment
Northern Illinois University

Rank and Salary:
Assistant Professor - Permanent, Tenure Track.
Salary based on experience.

Responsibilities:
Primary area of expertise in Library Information. Teach graduate courses
in library information for advanced teaching certification, master's and
doctoral students from diverse backgrounds, stressing the practical
integration of technology at all levels K-12; develop and revise
curricula related to library information; actively collaborate teachers
and other K-12 practitioners in the field, on the integration of
technology into library and media center settings through professional
education courses and clinical / student teaching applied experiences;
conduct research on the theory and/or applications of instructional
technologies to library information settings; and advise master's and
doctoral students and direct student research.

Required Capabilities:
An earned doctorate (by the time of appointment) in Instructional
Technology or Library Science (or a closely related field);
Specific educational preparation and/or professional experience related
to library information; 
Experience in developing and/or teaching graduate-level courses in
library information (such as: cataloging, reference and library
materials for children); 
Experience in working with K-12 teachers and administrators on the
integration of technology, especially in library and media center
settings; and 
An active research agenda involving theoretical and/or applied research
in a subject area of library information and/or instructional
technology.

Desired Capabilities:
Prior teaching and/or library experience in K-12 settings; 
The ability to supervise field-based internships and practica, including
interfacing with school library media specialists and teachers; 
Experience applying a variety of instructional methodologies and
technologies in teaching (such as distance education); 
An active agenda of research and/or service that regularly involves the
candidate in K-12 settings; 
The ability to teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in general
instructional technology and technology integration; 
A desire and capacity to collaborate with departmental faculty, staff
and students on the planning of various subject-related activities
(e.g., NCATE/AASL accreditation reviews, department sponsored retreats,
and conferences); and 
Prior experience, or the capacity to eventually be able, to serve as an
adviser to master's and doctoral students including directing student
research.

A letter of application, indicating the applicant's desire to apply for
this position.
A current vita, listing prior positions held and degrees earned,
including dates.
Three original letters of reference, including addresses and telephone
numbers for each person providing reference. These references should
address the applicant's ability to meet the requirements of the
position.
Copy of transcript(s), showing highest degree earned. These may be
unofficial copies for initial consideration (official copies will be
required prior to an hiring offer).
A statement of research and teaching interests with evidence of
competencies. This statement, and any supporting documentation, should
specifically address the candidate's qualifications to perform the tasks
listed under "Required Capabilities", "Desired Capabilities", or should
expand on entries in the vita.
