Instructional Services Librarian
Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA

Summary of Position
Bucknell University’s Information Services & Resources (ISR), a merged
library/information technology organization, seeks an energetic,
innovative instructional services librarian whose primary responsibility
will be to take our educational programs to a new level in the context
of Bucknell’s strategic plan, The Plan for Bucknell.

We are at an exciting juncture at Bucknell: the university is currently
in the midst of a full-scale review of its curriculum, including general
education requirements. As part of this review, faculty and staff,
including members of ISR, are working to integrate information literacy,
technology fluency, and critical thinking skills as newly and broadly
defined by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education into the
revised curriculum. This newly focused position will be central in
helping shape an information literacy and technology fluency program for
Bucknell that comprises course-specific research skills as well as the
progression of skills to be included in the general education requirements.

Within ISR, this position will provide leadership for both
classroom-related instruction and the delivery of information literacy
skills in an online environment. The incumbent will assess and improve
current instructional efforts and work with librarians and technologists
to integrate current pedagogies, educational theory, and instructional
technology into their teaching.

Primary Responsibilities Include:
· Lead development of a comprehensive information literacy/technology
fluency program in conjunction with university and ISR constituencies.
· Coordinate current library instruction efforts.
· Design professional development opportunities for ISR instructors,
focusing on current learning and teaching theories. Assess current
instructional efforts.
· Lead ISR’s Facilitating Learning Group, a cross-functional team
comprised of librarians and technologists.
· Serve as a member of ISR’s Assessment Team. Serve as leader for
assessment activities pertaining to the information literacy/technology
fluency program and ISR instructional activities. Serve as coordinator
for LIBQUAL and MISO surveys. Analyze quantitative and qualitative data
collected from surveys and focus groups.
· Serve as a liaison to several academic departments. Liaison
responsibilities include instruction, collection development, extended
reference, and outreach. The assignment of departments will be
determined based on the successful candidate’s background and areas of
expertise.
· Serve on university-wide and ISR committees.
· Attend conferences, training, professional seminars and other
activities to maintain and increase knowledge in areas related to
information literacy, teaching, and assessment.

Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in library/information science and minimum of 5 years
of professional experience as a librarian in an academic library; or an
equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant field.
· Demonstrated ability to work with faculty, administrators, and other
staff to plan and implement an information literacy program.
· Knowledge of current learning, teaching, and information literacy
theory and best practices such as active learning, problem-based
learning, and learning outcomes; experience applying them, preferably in
an academic setting.
· Experience working with instructional technology tools such as course
management systems, personal response systems (i.e., “clickers”), and
developing web pages.
· Experience with assessment of instruction and services, preferably in
a library setting.
· Project management strategic planning experience.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
· Ability to lead a staff with varied skills and backgrounds in a
rapidly changing environment.
· Ability to be proactive and innovative in managing new opportunities
and challenges.
· Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
· Proven commitment to service.

Salary Range: $49,100 – $73,700

About the Organization
In August 1997 Bucknell University integrated its library and computing
organizations to form Information Services and Resources (ISR). ISR
focuses on strengthening natural areas of collaboration and creating
synergies among staff members. We strive to create an information-rich
environment for the campus, and enjoy a strong service reputation. ISR
is committed to supporting the professional development of its 85 staff
members.

Bucknell is a highly selective, predominately undergraduate residential
university with strong liberal arts and professional programs. There are
approximately 3400 undergraduates and 150 master’s degree students. The
campus is in a beautiful rural setting adjacent to the Susquehanna
River. Harrisburg and State College (home of Penn State University) are
about an hour away; New York, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia
and Pittsburgh are approximately a three to four hour drive. The
university supports an active program of cultural events and
opportunities for recreation.
