Multiple Positions -- State University of New York at Buffalo -- New York
Director, School Library Media ProgramTenure-Track Faculty Position
Description of Duties: The position requires directing the School Library
Media (SLM) program, overseeing student teaching experiences, and
participating in regional, state, and national SLM organizations. Duties
require teaching one or more of the following SLM courses: youth resources
and services, the curriculum role of the school library media specialist,
management of the school library media center, or computer applications in
the school library media center. The candidate is expected to conduct
research, publish, participate in efforts to receive external funding,
establish and maintain cross-disciplinary connections, and participate in
appropriate departmental, school, university and community service
activities. Appointment can be at the Associate or higher rank, depending
on qualifications.Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Library and Information
Studies or related field. The preferred candidate will also hold an MLS.
Appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank requires a record
of research and publication with evidence of teaching excellence.
Experience as a School Library Media Specialist and knowledge of
requirements for SLM certification is a definite advantage.

Assistant or Associate Professor inEnglish Education
The Position: The Graduate School of Education at the University at
Buffalo, The State University of New York - a Research I institution -
seeks a scholar in English Education. We welcome candidates with a strong
interest in areas such as the teaching, learning, and uses of literature,
writing, and multiliteracies in diverse contexts. The position will be a
tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor
with a start date of August 25, 2008. Program faculty currently focus
their research on reading-writing relations, multimodal literacies/New
Literacies, learners academically at-risk, and instructional practices in
English education.Required Qualifications: The successful candidate for
the position will have (1) An earned doctorate in English Education (or
literacy education with a strong adolescent focus); (2) A solid record of
research and scholarly work commensurate with rank; (3) Experience in
university and Grade 5-12 teaching; (4) Experience in a range of research
methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative approaches; (5) For
appointment at the Associate level, an established record of successful
grant applications desirable.Responsibilities: The successful applicant
will conduct an active research program which includes publication and
grant writing; teach graduate courses (2 per semester) in English
education theory, research, and pedagogy; advise both master's and
doctoral students; serve on dissertation committees and direct
dissertations; participate in program development activities; integrate
technologies and 21st century literacies into classes; and contribute to
securing research and development funds. Highly desirable are candidates
with a continuing interest and work in one or more of the Graduate School
of Education's strategic strengths: Education for Social Equity, The
Science of Learning and Pedagogy, Institutional and Educational Policy
Analysis, and Family-School-Societal Transitions.Completed applications
