Antonio -- Texas
 


Head of Archives and Special Collections

The University of Texas at San Antonio Library is seeking an experienced,
dynamic, and energetic librarian&#47;archivist to provide leadership,
organization, and management for the Archives and Special Collections
program. Under the leadership of the Assistant Dean for Collections, the
Head of Archives and Special Collections will be expected to substantially
redefine and reenergize the program, including identifying and acquiring
appropriate manuscript, artifact, and book collections and financial
support through active engagement of the community. Manages 5.5 FTE
professional and support staff.
Required qualifications&#58; ALA accredited Masters degree with graduate
courses in archival theory and methodology or an equivalent degree in
archival administration or another field with an emphasis on archival
administration.  Five years of successful and increasingly responsible
professional experience in archives and&#47;or special collections.
Knowledge of current standards for archival description and relevant
metadata encoding schemes. Experience with all aspects of
archival&#47;special collections work, including processing, reference,
appraisal, basic preservation, historical methodology and documentation,
outreach, collection building, program planning and project management,
and donor relations. Demonstrated management and supervisory experience.
Preferred qualifications&#58; Experience in writing and&#47;or
administering grants. Familiarity or experience with the principles of
records management. Familiarity with metadata schema, indexing, and
database construction and management. Experience planning, designing, and
installing exhibits in a library, archive, or museum setting. Knowledge of
Texas history and experience creating and maintaining local history
collections and working with local history organizations. Fund raising
experience in an academic environment.
Salary&#58; $55,000&#47;annualized, depending on qualifications.
The University of Texas at San Antonio Library is at an exciting point in
its history with new positions being filled, strategic planning in
progress, and a major renovation project underway.
