Information Services Librarian / Outreach Librarian
The Biomedical Library of the University of South Alabama is seeking a
motivated, energetic librarian to promote the library and health care
resources to the university community and surrounding area.
Responsibilities include directing the library's outreach service to
unaffiliated health related professionals, participation in
bibliographic instruction, reference services, hospital services and
supervision of the interlibrary loan department. This is a tenure-track
faculty position with rank at the Instructor Level, reporting to the
Assistant Director for Public Services.
* Required
ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent; Excellent oral and written
communication skills; Strong service orientation
* Preferred
Candidates with any combination of these qualifications: Demonstrated
experience/interest in medical information; Presentation/teaching
experience; Grant writing experience; Strong problem-solving and
organizational and skills; Experience in supervision or directing the
work of others; Demonstrated knowledge of scientific research process,
scholarly communication, and copyright and intellectual property issues
in teaching and clinical settings; Marketing or public relations
experience
Principal Responsibilities:
* Promotes library services through individual contacts, newsletters,
exhibits and other appropriate communication tools
* Administers the library's outreach program, SOUTHmed Information
Network (http://southmed.usouthal.edu/library/outreach/index.html)
* Supervises the interlibrary loan/document delivery department (3.0
FTE) and services
* Serves as grant administrator for Biomedical Library
* Serves as library newsletter (Biofeedback) editor
* Plans activities for National Library Week, National Medical
Librarians Month, etc.
* Staffs the reference desk 20 hours per month minimum, participates in
a rotating weekend schedule, and evening shift back-up
* Assists with bibliographic instruction/library education classes
* Assists with services to University hospitals
Additional Responsibilities:
* Participates in Library faculty planning and evaluation of library
services and resources
* Professional development activities including: research and
publication, professional continuing education, attendance of
professional meetings, and other activities that support the University,
its libraries and the profession
* Achieves and maintains membership in the Academy of Health Information
Professionals
* Serves as liaison to one or more departments of the College of
Medicine, Nursing or Allied Health Professions
* Other duties as assigned
Salary/Benefits
Salary range: $38,000-$42,000, based on qualifications. The University

The University of South Alabama is seeking a motivated, energetic
librarian with a passion for new and emerging informational
technologies. Responsibilities include library web site administration,
reference services and technology coordination.
Required
ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent; excellent oral and written
communication skills; strong public service orientation; proficiency in
information architecture and web design; passion for information
technology and instruction. This is a tenure-track faculty position with
rank at the Instructor Level, reporting to the Assistant Director for
Public Services.
Preferred
Demonstrated experience/interest in medical information, teaching or
presenting in front of groups; Dreamweaver, XHTML & CSS; web usability
and accessibility standards; podcasting, screencasting
(Camtasia/Captivate), and related online instructional technologies.
Principal Responsibilities:
* Responsible for identifying emerging technologies that will enhance
library services
* Responsible for educating University faculty, students and staff on
technology tools
* Responsible for development and maintenance of all Biomedical Library
web pages
* Responsible for staffing reference desk 20 hours per month minimum, as
well as a rotating weekend schedule, and evening shift back-up
* Assists with College of Medicine Computer Lab and Multimedia
Conference Room
* Assists with bibliographic instruction/library education classes
* Serve as a liaison between library faculty/staff and systems personnel
Additional Responsibilities:
* Participates in Library faculty planning and evaluation of library
services and resources
* Professional development activities including: research and
publication, professional continuing education, attendance of
professional meetings, and other activities that support the University,
its libraries and the profession
* Achieves and maintains membership in the Academy of Health Information

* Keeps web page statistics
