Head Librarian, Architecture & Planning Library
University of Texas Libraries - The University of Texas at Austin

The Head Librarian is responsible for the operations and management of the
Architecture & Planning Library.  Responsibilities include the planning,
organization, implementation and assessment of all activities including
faculty relations, user services, personnel, budget, resource development,
and policy-making.  The successful candidate will work collaboratively to
build successful partnerships with the School of Architecture and across
campus as well as taking a leadership role in related professional
organizations.  The position reports to the Associate Director for User
Services, University of Texas Libraries.
The Architecture & Planning Library is located in historic Battle Hall,
recently named as one of America's favorite buildings by the American
Institute of Architects.  See http://favoritearchitecture.org&#47;. 
Collections support the research and teaching of the School of
Architecture, including Architecture, Architectural History, Community &
Regional Planning, Historic Preservation, Interior Design, Landscape
Architecture, Sustainable Design, Urban Design and related disciplines. 
The Architecture & Planning Library houses the Alexander Architectural
Archive which includes more than 90 collections of architectural drawings
and other artifacts emphasizing the Southwest United States. The
Architecture & Planning Library and Alexander Architectural Archive have a
staff of two full-time professional librarians, five classified staff and
15 student assistants.  For more information, see

Required Qualifications&#58;  MLS from an ALA accredited graduate program.
 Successful management experience at the professional level in an academic
or research library.  Resource development experience including donor
relations and grant writing.  Collection development, reference and
instruction experience in one or more of the following areas&#58;
architecture, architectural history, community or urban planning, historic
preservation, interior design, or landscape architecture.
Preferred Qualifications&#58;  Experience managing budgets. Experience
leveraging emerging technologies to improve and maintain sustainable
services. Experience leading and managing change efforts. Experience
working successfully with faculty and and&#47;or college administrators.
Experience managing archival or special collections. An advanced degree in
an applicable subject area. Demonstrated leadership in library, university,
state, national, and international programs and initiatives. Evidence of
well-developed interpersonal skills, initiative, creative energy,
resourcefulness, and a strong commitment to public service.  Demonstrated
excellent written and verbal communication and problem solving skills.  
Salary and Benefits&#58;  $60,000 annually negotiable depending on
qualifications and experience.   No state or local income tax.  Standard
state benefits package including annual vacation and sick leave, paid
holidays, retirement plans, and health insurance options (comprehensive
major medical, dental, vision, life, and disability).  Deferred
compensation and tax sheltered annuity programs also available.
