Department: Library and Information Science, College of Education
The Library & Information Science (LIS) Program at the University of
Denver 
(DU) has an opening for a tenure-track faculty member at the assistant 
professor rank. The appointment may begin in January, March, or
September 
2008.
One of seven programs in the College of Education at DU, LIS invites 
applications from candidates who are committed to excellence in teaching
and 
have emerging research agendas in areas such as information access and 
retrieval, information architecture with an emphasis on information 
visualization or digital libraries, and information or educational 
technologies.
DU is a high quality, private institution, and DU's LIS faculty members
take 
pride in preparing information professionals for leadership roles in 
institutions serving diverse users in dynamic, evolving environments. 
Students at DU choose from among six concentrations: Archives and
Records 
Management (ARM), Information Science and Technology (IST), Knowledge 
Management (KM), Reference and User Services (RUS), Resource Description
and 
Analysis (RDA), and School Library (SL). DU faculty demonstrate a 
user-centered perspective, incorporate adult learning theory into their 
teaching, advise and supervise students in academic and experiential 
settings, and teach core and specialized courses at the graduate level.
They 
also serve on University, College, and LIS committees and teams.

American 
Library Association.
Position duties:
The successful applicant will teach core and specialized courses in the 
areas defined above. Preferred candidates will have teaching and
research 
interests that complement those of current members of the LIS faculty.
We 
would especially invite applications from individuals who have expertise
in 
information science and technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in library and information science or a related discipline
completed 
at the time of appointment. Three or more years of demonstrated
professional 
experience in library or information settings preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:
ABD Required, Ph.D. preferred.  In addition, candidates are required to
have 
a master's degree in library science or an appropriate discipline, 
professional experience in a library or information setting, and
teaching 
experience at the graduate level for appointment at the assistant
professor 
rank.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should have demonstrated potential for scholarly research, 
commitment to service, excellence in teaching, and experience working
with 
persons from culturally diverse backgrounds.
