Position&#58; Digital Collections Archivist, 35 hours per week
Description&#58;  The Digital Collections Archivist will develop and
maintain the electronic records and digital collections of Special
Collections and the University Archives.  Included in this responsibility
is management of the e-Archive, the university's institutional repository;
archiving born digital materials, such as podcasts and electronic journals;
and promoting the archival services of the department throughout the campus
community.
The position will oversee the VU serials collection, including acquiring
archival copies of physical publications as well as born-digital materials
like podcasts and electronic publications.  The position will develop and
maintain databases and other formats to manage paper-based, digital, and
born-digital materials in the Archives.    The position will facilitate
the development of the e-Archive; provide user support services and
training; create and maintain procedural documentation relating to the
e-Archive; provide training to Library bibliographers who assist with
marketing the use of the e-Archive; and, create descriptive metadata for
e-Archive collections and communities.
The qualified person must be comfortable with presenting new ideas to
faculty and administrators and enlisting their aid in new digital storage
initiatives. This position will serve on several library-wide committees,
and serve as a liaison for Special Collections regarding digital matters. 
The Digital Collections Archivist reports to the Director of Special
Collections and University Archives.  
Qualifications&#58;  MLS from an ALA-accredited program plus knowledge of
standard archival practices required.   Strong written and oral
communications skills are necessary due to frequent contact with
Vanderbilt Departments, faculty, staff and students.  Must be
customer-service oriented with the ability to work both independently and
collaboratively.  Must understand the principles of web design and HTML,
as well as be familiar with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).  Knowledge of
basic metadata schemas, especially Dublin core, is especially desired. 
Environment&#58;  Vanderbilt University consists of ten schools and
colleges with an enrollment of around 11,000. The Vanderbilt Library
system has a collection of over 3 million volumes and a staff of 207. The
Library is a member of the Association of Research Libraries, SOLINET, and
the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries. The Special Collections
Library consists of approximately 40,000 books and pamphlets, over 600
manuscript collections, and memorabilia from the campus.  The University
Photographic Archives contains over 300,000 images of the university and
George Peabody College as well as photographs from manuscript collections.
 The University Archives holds the historical and legal records of the
university and George Peabody College.  Vanderbilt is located in
Nashville, Tennessee, a major business and educational center in the
mid-South with a population of over one million in the metropolitan
statistical area.
Compensation&#58;  $34,125 (minimum), commensurate with experience.
