Embrace the opportunity to lead an outstanding Library program to its next 
level of service! Join the Central College campus community (Pella, IA) as 
it positions its current and future Library programs, services and 
facilities to even better serve its students, staff and faculty in a warm, 
collegial liberal arts environment. Reporting to the Provost/Dean of the 
Faculty, this tenure-track faculty position is responsible for providing 
leadership in administering the Geisler Library/Media Center and for 
collaborating with faculty across the campus to ensure the success of the 
vision of Central College as “a sustainable bridge to the future through 
leadership, stewardship and service to the world.”
Geisler Library is a busy, welcoming, wireless facility. With a $1 million 
budget, the staff of four faculty librarians, six support staff, and many 
student employees serve the 1,600 students and faculty with resources that 
include 235,000 monographs, 10,000 audio/visual items, 850 journal 
subscriptions, and 16,000 electronic journals and newspapers. Special 
collections include original documents describing the early Dutch 
settlement of Pella, a 5,000 item curriculum library supporting teacher 
education programs, a 4,000 item music library, and a 1,000 volume 
chemistry library in the Vermeer Science Center. The Library has several 
group study rooms, public reading spaces and a caf้. As part of its 
partnership with the City of Pella, Geisler Library shares an integrated 
library system (Innovative Interfaces, Inc.) with the Pella Public Library. 
Central College is a private, residential liberal arts college founded in 
an ecumenical Christian tradition that serves 1,600+ students. Founded in 
1853, the college is affiliated with the Reformed Church in America and 
NCAA Division III athletics. Central College offers 36 majors. The average 
class size is 20 students with the student to faculty ratio 14-to-1. The 
college maintains a long-standing commitment to international education 
with nationally recognized residential programs in Paris; London; Vienna; 
Granada, Spain; Leiden; Bangor, Wales; Merida, The Yucatแn, Mexico; and 
Hangzhou, China. Central College is accredited by the Higher Learning 
Commission and a member of the North Central Association, Iowa Department 
of Public Instruction, AACTE, National Association of Schools of Music and

Library Director responsibilities: 
•	Oversee all library and media center operations including 
facilities planning and renovation, fiscal management, recruitment and 
retention of Library faculty and staff, collections management and access, 
and evaluation and implementation of emerging library technologies 
•	Provide leadership in planning, implementing, managing and 
assessing programs related to serving the students, staff and faculty of 
Central College including the collaborative information literacy curriculum 
•	Articulate and carry out, with support, from faculty and staff a 
vision for the Library’s future 
•	Serve on the Student Learning and Development Council chaired by 
the Provost and Dean of the Faculty and other campus committees 
•	Serve as an advocate for the Library with campus, local, state, and 
community leaders 
•	Represent Geisler Library and Central College nationally, 
regionally, and locally in professional organizations and community service 
Minimum Requirements: 
•	ALA-accredited MLS 
•	Minimum of seven years progressive administrative and management 
experience in academic libraries 
•	Comprehensive understanding of the mission of the library in a 
liberal arts college and ability to articulate that mission to multiple 
constituencies 
•	Demonstrated ability to work with people in a collegial, 
consultative, and collaborative environment 
•	Demonstrated ability to promote forward-looking initiatives, 
services and programs to position the library to meet future needs 
•	Demonstrated ability to integrate relevant emerging technologies in 
library services 
•	An understanding of the role of libraries in academic teaching and 
learning 
•	Effective experience with strategic planning and outcomes based 
assessment 
•	Strong service orientation; excellent analytical, communication and 
interpersonal skills 
•	Knowledge of current issues facing higher education and trends in 
scholarly communication including copyright and licensing 
•	Record of service to the profession and evidence of scholarly 
achievement 
Salary:Low to mid-$70,000s and negotiable DOQ with a good benefits package. 
This is a tenure-track academic appointment depending on qualifications and 
experience.
