NEEDED FOR SUNDAYS AND MONDAY EVENINGS
Description:
UT Libraries will be hiring a graduate student from the School of
Information Sciences to work evening hours at the main reference desk of
Hodges Library. For individuals interested in a library career, this is an
excellent opportunity to acquire reference experience and develop public
service skills.
Responsibilities:
The graduate student library assistants will provide the entire range of
reference services at the Hodges Library main reference desk, including
instruction to patrons in the use of print and electronic resources,
telephone reference, email reference, our chat reference service and minor
equipment upkeep. They will supervise other student workers in the
reference area from 9 p.m. to 12 midnights. During the summer the library
will close at 10 pm. Other tasks may be assigned as needed to assist on
projects with Reference Librarians.
Qualifications Preferred:
Completion or current enrollment in SIS 530 (Information Access and
Retrieval).
Ability to communicate well. Desire to assist the public with information
needs. Experience using the library, including use of the library catalog,
periodical databases, and the Internet. Ability to work evening hours until
midnight.
This position does not include tuition remuneration. The applicant may not
hold other positions, including GA and GTA appointments at the University of
Tennessee.
Hours:
8 - 9 hours per week, between 6:00 p.m. and 12:00 midnight, at least 2
evenings per week, Sunday through Thursday. More hours could be available
at a later date. Some flexibility in scheduling during the course of the
semester will be possible.
Starting Pay:
$10 per hour.
