Student Library Assistant - Rare Books
Special Collections Library
The Special Collections Library, located in Hoskins Library, seeks a
qualified student to assist in processing and providing access to
materials
in our rare books collection.
Hours: 10-15 hours per week; schedule is negotiable within our business
hours (9:00-5:30, Monday-Friday).
Required Qualifications:
* UT student (undergraduate or graduate) in liberal arts or
information
science
* Strong attention to detail
* Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
* Comfortable working with computers
* Must be able to work independently
* Punctual and reliable
Preferred Qualifications:
* Prior library work experience
* Interest in Tennessee history, rare books, or special collections
librarianship
* Prior experience handling rare and fragile materials
* Ability to work from 3:30-5:30 pm at least one day per week
Duties/Responsibilities:
* Create preliminary catalog records for newly-received rare books
* Process newly-catalogued rare books by creating book flags
* Shelve rare books
* Work Special Collections afternoon reference desk on assigned day
by
answering the telephone and assisting patrons in the reading room
* Other duties as assigned
