The Florida State University Libraries invite applications for an
Associate Director for Library Technology.
*DESCRIPTION*: The Associate Director for Library Technology has a key
leadership role in shaping and guiding the vision for the FSU libraries
in which computing, digital, and networked resources are transforming
the delivery of services and information. A member of Director's Council
and the senior management team, the Associate Director works closely
with colleagues in defining and developing strategic directions,
drafting appropriate policies and procedures, and coordinating
technology activities throughout the libraries. The position reports to
the Director of Libraries.
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*:
* Directs activities of four departments: Library Systems, Web
Development, Aleph Coordination, Digital Library Center.
* Recruits, trains, supervises and evaluates department personnel;
responsible for information technology planning, operations, and
management for the Libraries.
* Ensures that library programs, services, and infrastructure are
responsive to the academic needs of faculty, students, and staff of
Florida State University.
* Oversees and develops strategic initiatives for the Libraries' web
presence, including its website, Open-URL resolver, and all related
discovery tools (federated search, etc.)
* Develops strategic goals and objectives.
* Facilitates interaction and communication within the unit and
throughout the Libraries.
* Represents the Libraries in technology matters both within and beyond
the University.
* Encourages creative development in digital and information technology
initiatives that respond to user needs.
* Serves as the primary liaison on library technology matters with the
University's Information Technology Steering Committee, Office of
Technology Integration, Office of Telecommunications and University
Computing Services.
* Serves on teams, committees and task forces within the Libraries, the
University, and in consortia and professional organizations at all
levels.
* Coordinate Ex Libris components: Aleph, SFX, Metalib, Digitool.
* Responsible for Institutional Repository, Electronic Theses and
Dissertations, maintaining the LOCKSS digital archive, and resolving
proxy issues.
*QUALIFICATIONS:*
_Required_: M.L.S. or its equivalent from an ALA accredited program.
Minimum of five (5) years of substantial and progressively responsible
experience in management of information technology in a research library
or university. A record of successful implementation and management of
emerging technologies. Experience in project management and systems
management, analysis, and design, as well as digital library management.
Knowledge of information technology trends and applications, and of
scholarly communication patterns. Ability to work effectively with staff
(including supervision), colleagues, faculty, and students. Excellent
interpersonal skills; excellence in written and oral communication.
Strong team-building skills. Capacity to thrive in a rapidly changing
environment. Demonstrated record of professional involvement and
contribution. Significant experience working with a major Library
Management System (LMS).
_Preferred_: Advanced degree in a relevant discipline.

SALARY*: $81,000 - $88,000 - Negotiable depending on qualifications

BENEFITS*: This is a full-time, 12-month non-tenured faculty
appointment. Benefits include 22 days' vacation, 13 days' sick leave,
group, medical, dental, and life insurance, an optional retirement
program or state retirement, and no state or local income tax. With
supervisor's approval, may qualify for University tuition scholarships
for up to six hours credit each semester.

a growing community with a population of more than 215,000, the Florida
