Archivist --  Columbia University Medical Center -- New York
 

Library&#58; Archivist. Columbia University, Augustus C. Long Health
Sciences Library. The Columbia University Health Sciences Library seeks a
flexible and creative individual for the position of archivist.   Under
the direction of the Head, Archives and Special Collections, the archivist
is responsible for arranging, describing, and providing access to the
records of the Columbia University Medical Center and to a growing
collection of personal papers and manuscripts. Responsibilities include
arrangement and description of archival and manuscript collections;
providing access and research assistance to internal and external users;
developing finding aids and catalog records; engaging in outreach to
campus records creators; assisting in creating exhibits; assisting in
appraisal and accessioning; assisting in the development and
implementation of digital projects; overseeing the department during the
absence of the Head, Archives and Special Collections. Requirements&#58;
ALA accredited MLS with an emphasis on archival management or an MA in
archival management, or an equivalent combination of education and
experience required. One to two years' experience desirable. Experience
with arrangement and description. Experience providing reference in an
archival setting. Familiarity with archival descriptive standards.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated capacity to
work independently and in a timely fashion. Evidence of ability to
regularly finish projects. Ability to work in and contribute to a team
environment. Must be able to lift heavy boxes. Columbia University's
Augustus C. Long Health Sciences Library serves the University's schools
of medicine, nursing, dentistry, and public health as well as the New
York-Presbyterian Hospital.  It is one of the largest health sciences
libraries in the US holding over 500,000 volumes and with subscriptions to
more than 5,000 journals. Archives and Special Collections serves as the
archives for Columbia's health science schools and has approximately 3000
cubic feet of records and personal papers.  It holds 15,000 rare books in
the history of the health sciences as well as such special collections as
the Auchincloss Florence Nightingale Collection, the Sigmund Freud
Library, and the Hyman Collection in the History of Anesthesiology. This
position has been classified as a PC I position.  Salary is commensurate
with experience. We offer excellent benefits including 100% Columbia
tuition exemption for self and family. Columbia will also pay 50% tuition
