E-Learning Librarian or E-Learning Specialist

George Mason University, a Carnegie Research University (High Research
Activity), is an innovative, entrepreneurial institution with national
distinction in a range of academic fields. Enrollment is 30,000, with
students in over 150 degree programs. The libraries are experiencing a
period of significant growth in funding, staffing and facilities, and were
identified in the university's long-range planning process as critical to
the university's expanding role as a research institution. 
George Mason University Libraries seeks an innovative and creative
individual for a newly created E-Learning Librarian position. This
position presents opportunities for shaping an information fluency
program, led by the Libraries' Educational Services Unit; this unit will
be responsible for creating an enterprise-wide research education program,
focusing on infusing information fluency throughout the curriculum. The
E-Learning Librarian will forge connections with a wide range of
stakeholders to advance technology-enhanced instruction in information
literacy and related educational programs throughout the curriculum. 
The E-Learning Librarian is responsible for technology-enhanced
instruction through the development of learning objects, streaming
audio-video, Web-based modules and e-learning within course management
systems. Leads projects relating to assessment of the impact of
technologies in information fluency instruction, and will maintain and
refresh the Libraries' Educational Services Web site. Position reports to
the Head of Educational Services, who oversees the Educational Services
Unit. 
Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLA degree, or ALA- recognized foreign
equivalent, or master's in appropriate discipline, with coursework in
instructional design, Web-based instruction or e-learning strongly
preferred. Experience in an academic library preferred. Knowledge of
information literacy concepts and issues and their connections with
teaching and learning issues in higher education. Demonstrated experience
with project management. Knowledge of, and experience with, Web
development tools such as Dreamweaver and other instructional technologies
such as Macromedia Captivate; and familiarity with streaming video,
learning objects, simulations and course management systems. Ability to
develop interactive learning environments. Evidence of energy, initiative
and commitment to professional growth. 
Appointment will be made as either Professional Faculty or Administrative
Faculty, depending on academic credentials. Salary is competitive and
