Library Thesis/Dissertation Fellowship

The James E. Walker Library of Middle Tennessee State University
announces
the availability of a thesis/dissertation fellowship. The purpose of the
University's fellowship program is to enhance diversity in research,
teaching, and service at MTSU through the recruitment of
underrepresented
minority students from across the country who are completing graduate
research.

Responsibilities:
The fellow will provide service in the library within an area related to
his or her academic preparation and the needs of the library. The fellow
will be expected to devote significant time to the completion of the
graduate thesis or dissertation. The fellow will also work with a
library
faculty mentor and will be involved with co-curricular activities
including the university's cultural diversity initiatives. Under general
direction of the Coordinator of User Services and the Team Leader for
Reference and Instructional Services, provide leadership for web
services,
monitor the technology needs of the User Services Department, and
participate in reference and instruction.
Qualifications:

The individual chosen for this program must be either a thesis stage
masters degree candidate from an ALA accredited program, or a
dissertation
stage doctoral degree candidate who possesses the ALA accredited masters
degree. The successful candidate must exhibit a willingness to
participate
in MTSU's diversity initiatives. Excellence in teaching,
research/creative
activity and service, as pertinent to the library, is expected.

Salary and Benefits:

The Library Fellow will receive a one-year salaried faculty appointment
and may be eligible for benefits including health insurance. The fellow
must be eligible for employment. Additionally, s/he will receive support
for research, professional travel, and other related expenses. It is
expected that the fellow will not be employed outside of the university
or
receive additional fellowships or awards during the fellowship period
unless approved by the university.

Application Procedure:
All applications must be submitted online. Review of applications will
continue until the position is filled. an online application, a cover
letter, a vita (showing experience/understanding of diversity issues in
higher education, a proposed plan for completion with a two-page
abstract
and a proposed timeline for completion showing milestones. Applicants
should also submit official transcripts (not issued to student),
verification of candidacy, and three letters of recommendation (one must
be from the adviser) to:
