Position:
Instructional Services Graduate Assistant. Twelve-month (August 1 -
July
31), half-time (20 hours/week) position with stipend and tuition
remission.
Description:
This graduate assistant will work primarily with the Instructional
Services
Coordinator in the delivery of user education programs and the
development
of instruction materials. Potential job assignments include:
* Teaching basic library skills to first-year English composition,
Communication Studies 210 and other core, lower division undergraduate
classes
* Assisting with workshops, tours, undergraduate admissions events
and other
group orientation sessions
* Assisting subject librarians in the classroom or with
preparation of materials
* Assisting with or creating/maintaining instruction-focused web
pages
* Special projects as assigned by the Instructional Services
Coordinator
The responsibilities also involve one evening shift (6 p.m. - midnight)
at
the service desk in Reference or the Commons each week, which includes
supervision of Student Library Assistants. Occasional outreach
activities
that are part of the overall responsibilities may require weekend hours.
Qualifications:
Graduate student in the School of Information Sciences or related field.
Experience using a library catalog, bibliographic databases and Internet
search engines. Applicant must have excellent written and interpersonal
communication skills, and a high comfort level with public speaking.
Experience creating web pages is preferred
