Director, Public Health Library and Informatics --  University of Michigan
at Ann Arbor -- Michigan
 

The Health Sciences Libraries and the School of Public Health at the
University of Michigan invite applications for the position of Director,
Public Health Library & Informatics.  The director's position provides a
unique and exciting opportunity to join the leadership team of an
innovative library system and manage an outstanding public health library
and information resource.  Public Health Library & Informatics serves the
School of Public Health, which is of preeminent stature in its discipline
with departments in biostatistics, environmental health sciences,
epidemiology, health behavior&#47;health education, and health management
and policy.
Public Health Library & Informatics is also part of the Health Sciences
Libraries, which serve more than 21,000 users in the Schools of Medicine,
Nursing, Public Health, and Dentistry and College of Pharmacy, in addition
to the University of Michigan Health System. As part of the University
Library system, the Health Sciences Libraries offer access to a rapidly
expanding collection of over 20,000 electronic journals and databases and
are part of a vigorous and ambitious digital library program. The Health
Sciences Libraries are recognized as integral partners in the development
and provision of innovative and effective information services vital to
the University's education, research, patient care, and outreach
initiatives. The University's recently launched Michigan Digitization
Program (http://www.lib.umich.edu&#47;mdp&#47;) and Life Sciences
Initiative (http://www.lifesciences.umich.edu) provide unparalleled
opportunities for partnership in campus-wide efforts to expand learning in
a variety of rapidly growing fields.  
The primary responsibilities of the Director, Public Health Library &
Informatics will include&#58; provides management and oversight of the
public health library, instructional technology, online learning,
outreach, and web services; oversees informatics activities including web
services, e-learning services, and distance education services; actively
participates as a member of the Health Sciences Libraries Oversight
Committee to plan, organize, and implement Health Sciences Libraries-wide
services and activities, with particular responsibility for technology and
informatics related services, events, and activities; serves on designated
School of Public Health, Health Sciences Libraries, and University Library
committees and working groups; promotes the integration of technology into
staff activities and Health Sciences Libraries services; supervises
librarians and staff engaged in providing web services, technology
coordination, curriculum integration of technology, and e-learning
services; promotes and provides support for the development of informatics
services and products within the Libraries and to partners in the
University and related communities through grants and other opportunities;
participates in relevant regional and national professional organizations
and associations.
QUALIFICATIONS&#58;
Required&#58; Graduate degree from an ALA-accredited library program or an
equivalent combination of a relevant advanced degree and experience;
experience or coursework in informatics, online learning, or distance
education; demonstrated successful leadership and administrative
accomplishments in library, technical, or related environments; ability to
work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment;
innovative skills in the use of technology to deliver and manage
information; ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students
of culturally diverse backgrounds; excellent interpersonal, communication,
and presentation skills.
Desired&#58; record of successful achievement in obtaining external
funding; membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals;
and relevant second advanced degree.
Rank, Salary, & Leave&#58; Final rank and salary dependent on experience
and qualifications; position is anticipated to be filled at Senior
Associate or Librarian level.  Professional positions receive 24 days of
vacation a year; 15 days of sick leave a year with provisions for extended
benefits as well as opportunities for professional development and travel.
Retirement&#58; TIAA-CREF or Fidelity Investments options.
