Librarian I Youth Services / Programming -- Rapid City Public Library, SD,
gateway to the Black Hills and other outdoor recreational opportunities,
and listed by Forbes as one of the top 10 best small cities for starting a
business, seeks a dynamic individual to coordinate library-wide programming
for all ages, and to serve as the frontline coordinator for the Youth
Services Department. Duties also include: coordinate and schedule staff;
assist with training; maintain department procedure manuals; prepare
reports and correspondence related to policy, procedures and the strategic
plan.
Youth Services/Programming Librarian I will oversee 9 Public Services staff
and coordinate library programming in all departments. The position
reports to the Public Services Supervisor.
RCPL provides service to 90,000; overall staff includes 38.9 FTE. 2006
circulation was over 600,000 and the collection contains approximately
160,000 volumes. The library is housed in one main facility near downtown
Rapid City, with plans to open a satellite site in 2008. That satellite
site will be a joint school district/public library operation, located in
an underserved area of the community.
Minimum qualifications requirements: Acceptance into an MLS program.
Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, procedures and techniques
of library science. The successful candidate must have excellent written
and oral communication skills and ability to deal effectively with the
general public and staff. Must have the ability to plan and manage
projects and budgets. Possess diverse computer skills including experience
with online searching, local area networks, the Internet, and Microsoft
Office products (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook). Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Library Science; supervisory experience; public library
experience.
