Learning Resource Center Director --  Southern California University of
Health Sciences -- California
 

SCUHS, a leader in the education of Chiropractic, Acupuncture&#47;Oriental
Medicine is seeking a Director for their Learning Resource Center.  
The Director of the Learning Resource Center is a faculty position and
requires a Master's Degree in Library Sciences and at least three years
experience working in a Library.  It begins as a one year probationary
position (300 level contract) with the potential to become a permanent
position (100&#47;200 level contract) based upon faculty performance
appraisal.  Additionally, experience with implementing learning skills
development programs and assessing learning is preferred.  This individual
should possess strong customer service, leadership, organizational,
computer technology and communication skills.  Scholarly productivity (as
defined by Boyer) and intra and extra-institutional service, through
participation in college and&#47;or university committees, graduations,
and other assignments, are key components of this job. The director will
work closely with the academic deans to ensure that the best possible
service is provided to our faculty, staff, students and clinicians.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

&middot;  Act as research liaison between faculty and LRC resources.
&middot;  Administer the Destiny Library System and all check in,
circulation and cataloguing procedures.
&middot;  Manage, prepare and submit LRC budget.
&middot;  Processing of timesheets.
&middot;  Responsible for annual performance evaluations.  
&middot;  Hire, train, supervise and schedule library staff and student
assistants.
&middot;  Oversee Library Committee.
&middot;  Develop and maintain library collection.
&middot;  Purchase books, journals, media materials and office supplies.
&middot;  Supervise interlibrary loan process.  
&middot;  Manage Journal subscription services and online journals
activation process.
&middot;  Evaluate and implement electronic resources available to the
campus community.
&middot;  Provide instruction to users of collection in print and
electronic resources.
&middot;  Administration, coordination and supervision of the peer mentor
program including assessing learning and learning styles and developing
learning skills programs. 
&middot;  Actively participate in scholarly endeavors.
&middot;  Actively participate in university&#47;college committees and
other service opportunities.

SUPERVISION AND REPORTING STRUCTURE

Directly reports to the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs.
EVALUATION OF FULL TIME FACULTY

Full time faculty are evaluated by using the SCU Faculty Performance
Appraisal process. 
JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION&#58; Required&#58; Masters in Library Science from an ALA
accredited institution.
Preferred&#58; A second masters degree and experience with implementing
learning development programs
EXPERIENCE&#58; A minimum of 3 years experience working in a library. 
University&#47;college experience is preferred.  
TECHNICAL&#58; Computer literate, working in a Microsoft Windows
environment (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, FrontPage).
ABILITIES&#58;Excellent organizational skills; ability to work
independently and follow through on multiple assignments in a timely
manner; work effectively as a team member; work with diverse
constituencies; coordinate and prioritize a variety of diverse tasks;
excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; maintain
a high level of confidentiality regarding, faculty, staff, and student
issues; work effectively with conflicting priorities and tight deadlines;
demonstrate potential for scholarship.
LANGUAGE SKILLS&#58; Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex
information and documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive
inquiries, concerns or needs. Ability to write and communicate
effectively. 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS&#58; Background and ability to work with basic
statistical concepts required to analyze department key performance
indicators and student assessment data. 
REASONING ABILITY&#58;Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a
variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited
standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of directions and
information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS&#58; The physical demands described here are
representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully
perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations

is frequently required to sit and talk and hear. The employee is required
