Position Title: Project Analyst (Metadata)
Department: Discovery Commons, Faculty of Medicine, University of
Toronto
The Discovery Commons in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of
Toronto is seeking a Project Analyst with metadata knowledge and skills
for a variety of projects related to the organization, collection and
cataloguing of learning objects, curricular materials and teaching
program information.
The incumbent will be working with a team of colleagues to research,
evaluate, develop and/or deploy metadata standards, schema and
repository
systems to facilitate the use of learning objects and other datasets in
the Faculty of Medicine (specifically), and other learning communities
as
needed.
An appropriate professional degree in Library or Information Science
from
an accredited university program and experience working in an education
or
health sciences setting will be considered major assets for the
position.
The incumbent needs to have:
(i) Expertise in common metadata standards (Dublin Core,
IEEE-LOM,
MARC, etc);
(ii) Experience with Health sciences related controlled
vocabularies
(MeSH, etc.);
(iii) Familiarity with XML, the DSpace Initiative, Learning
Management
Systems and website design;
(iv) A proven record of project management.
The incumbent should be able to excel in an enjoyable but rapidly
changing
environment that requires coordination and organization of work
priorities
and the ability to handle multiple projects while meeting deadlines and
contributing to the overall mission of the Discovery Commons.
The Discovery Commons is a relatively new, but very exciting division in
the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Included on the
team
are formally trained educators, information and data specialists,
medical
illustrators, certified engineers, trained software developers,
audio-visual specialists. We have excellent relations with colleagues in
the University of Toronto Libraries, especially at the Gerstein Health
Sciences Centre.
At the moment the position would either be ongoing full-time casual, or
a
limited term appointment, with an attractive hourly compensation
commensurate with prior experience.
