Librarian --  Appalachian State University -- North Carolina
 


Instructor&#47;Assistant or Associate Professor&#47;Science and
Allied Health Librarian - University Library (A newly funded position)  

The University Library at Appalachian State University invites
applications from innovative and proactive individuals to join a library
seeking excellence.  The position is that of a collection manager-teacher.
The successful candidate will reach out to the faculty and students, on
campus and off campus, in the assigned disciplines to build focused,
high-quality collections and will instruct in the use of scholarly
resources.  The librarian will have principal responsibilities as a member
of the Collection Development Team and contribute actively to the work of
the Reference & Instruction Team.  
Responsibilities
The Science and Allied Health Librarian develops, analyzes, and manages
well-focused digital, paper, and microform information resources and
services that address the dynamic teaching and research needs of the
subject disciplines of nursing, allied health, and the physical sciences. 
The librarian teaches in the classroom, develops online teaching tools, and
provides consultative reference services.  The librarian works as an
effective team member on library and campus-wide projects in an
environment of outreach and collaboration among librarians and with the
campus community.  The librarian is comfortable using and learning
software tools.  The librarian participates collegially in these
responsibilities and other projects as assigned.  Annual evaluations and
review for promotion and tenure are based on performance in professional
responsibilities and a record of current involvement in scholarship and

Required Qualifications
&middot;ALA-accredited master degree.
&middot;Demonstrated abilities&#58;
oin successfully working in a collaborative team-based environment, 
oin effective teaching, 
owith learning and using new information technology tools, and 
oin multi-tasking and self-direction.
&middot;Demonstrated academic library experience in science or allied
health, or a current subject degree in a relevant science, nursing, or
allied health discipline.
&middot;Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications 
&middot;Experience with academic collections.
&middot;Graduate degree in a natural or physical science or allied health
discipline.
&middot;Demonstrated ability to work and communicate well with diverse
individual students, faculty, and staff members and groups to accomplish
goals and bring about successful outcomes. 
&middot;Demonstrated ability to innovate in an environment of changing
needs and priorities.
&middot;Life experiences similar to those of underrepresented populations
at Appalachian.  The Library strongly encourages applications from members
of ethnic and racial groups representative of Appalachian's student
minorities, principally African American, Hispanic Americans, Native
Americans and Asian Americans.
This twelve-month tenure track position will be available in the summer of
2007.  The position may be filled at the Instructor, Assistant Professor,
or Associate Professor ranks.  Rank as an Assistant or Associate Professor
and continued employment beyond the Instructor term requires an advanced
degree in addition to the MLS.  Salary and rank are determined on the
basis of qualifications and experience.  Minimum salaries for the ranks
are&#58;  Instructor $39,000, Assistant Professor $42,000, and Associate
Professor $45,000.
