Resource Development Librarian --  Purdue University -- Indiana
 
Resource Development Librarian Management and Economics LibraryPurdue
University Libraries seek a creative and user centered librarian to join
the Management & Economics Library. The Management & Economics Library is
embarking on a major physical and functional renovation to become a
valuable center of business information serving the University's
initiatives. In support of this goal, the Resource Development Librarian
will create a close working relationship between the Libraries, students
and faculty within the School of Management, the Agricultural Economics
Department, and other schools and departments in the areas of collection
and information resource development. This includes support of the
E-scholar digitization program, reference, interdisciplinary research
initiatives, and special collections. For more information about the

www.mgmt.purdue.edu.Responsibilities: Reporting to the Head Librarian,
this 12-month, tenure-track position provides guidance in the development
and assessment of all the Management & Economics Library collections and
provides reference services to the Krannert School of Management. This
includes selecting and assessing the collection priorities for materials
in all formats and serve as the primary liaison to Management, Economics,
and Agricultural Economics departments and other academic centers
affiliated with the Krannert School. Work with appropriate Library
personnel and units including the Electronic Resource Licensing Librarian,
Information Technology Division and University Copyright Office to ensure
compliance for new and renewed electronic resources. Manage the materials
budget and work collaboratively with other librarians, vendors, and other
organizations to determine how best to provide access to resources needed
at the Krannert School of Management. The Management & Economics Library
has an extensive historical economics collection and in collaboration with
the Head of Archives and Special Collections, continue to develop and
preserve this valuable collection. The Resource Development Librarian will
also participate in research and reference service activities to promote
the Library's strategic initiatives. Requirements: Master's degree in
Library Science (ALA accredited or equivalent). The successful candidate
will possess at least two years' experience relating to collection
development activities in both print and electronic resources;
Demonstrated knowledge of methods for evaluating and assessing library
collections to meet the needs of library users; have an understanding of
trends and activities relating to new developments in scholarly
communication, demonstrated knowledge of usage data for assessment,
acquisition and license agreement processes, experience working in a
collaborative environment both inside the library and other campus units
or academic libraries and consortia; Enthusiasm for new methods of
disseminating information. Interest in the application of current and
emerging technologies to meet the changing needs of users. Candidate must
also demonstrate a strong service orientation utilizing excellent
communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with faculty,
staff and students. Ability to work independently and as a team member in a
dynamic fast paced environment with shifting priorities and on a variety of
simultaneous projects.Desired: At least 2 years of academic library
experience. Knowledge of and/or experience in business librarianship or an
undergraduate degree in business or economics. Familiarity working with
data sets and the acquisition of data. Demonstrated record of ongoing
professional development and contribution.Salary: $45,000 and up,
depending on qualifications.Status and Benefits: Faculty status and
responsibilities. Rank of Assistant Professor. Twelve-month appointment
with annual vacation of 22 working days. Flexible benefit programs with

The Management and Economics Library, http://www.lib.purdue.edu/mel, is
rapidly converting to a primarily electronic resource environment to meet
user demand while increasing its value and visibility within the Krannert
School of Management. The library's focus is on investigating research
partnerships with faculty, analyzing the current collection in all
formats, involvement in space redesign, developing innovative services and
instructional opportunities, and better positioning itself to meet the
changing needs of its users. The Management and Economics Library is the
primary information center for the Krannert School of Management and the
Department of Agricultural Economics in the School of Agriculture and also
serves the University at large. The Krannert School of Management is
consistently ranked as one of the top 20 business schools. The Wall Street
Journal's survey of corporate recruiters rated Krannert as the # 4 regional
MBA School. The Department of Agricultural Economics is one of the largest
and most distinguished in the world.The Purdue University Libraries
system, which consists of the Undergraduate Library and 13
subject-oriented libraries, has holdings of over 2 million volumes and
provides extensive access to electronic resources. Staff totals more than
200, including 60 faculty and professionals. An innovative information
literacy instruction program promotes collaboration with teaching faculty,
employing multiple approaches to integrate active learning into the
University curriculum and prepare students for lifelong learning. All
staff participates in carrying out the Libraries' strategic plan to
accomplish measurable, outcome-oriented goals in four main areas: The
Learning Library, Scholarly Communication, User-Centered Services, and
Infrastructure. The Libraries home page may be viewed at

the State of Indiana, is located approximately 60 miles northwest of
Indianapolis, IN and 110 miles southeast of Chicago, IL. The greater
Lafayette area of over 150,000 provides diverse cultural and social
activities. The university will complete a $1.5 billion capital campaign
